GROWING BEANS?
In the annual federl-Provincial agriculture
review report as carried M the London Free
Pre, November 28, 1967, it Was officially
stated in regard to white beans:
"Production of dried beans in 1967 was
1,500,000 bushels compared with 2,300,000
bushels in 1966. The expanding domestic
demand, plus the ,need for beans for ex-
port and for food aid programs, indicate
an acreageincrease is required for 1968".
This was one of the very few crops upon which
an increased acreage was recommended.
WE ADVISE YOU TO CONSIDER WHITE
BEANS AS ONE OF YOUR 1968 CROPS.

As a result of excellent dry-
ing conditions, spring grain
seeding is practically all com-
pleted in Huron County accord-
ing to Huron Associate Ag. Rep.
Don Pullen, who adds that some
cereal grain fields are begin-
ning to "green up". Corn and
turnips are •being planted in
the south.
Wheat has come through the
winter in fine condition with
little winter killing evident.
Field conditions', have been ex-
cellent for top dressing nitrogen.
Mr. Pullen says it would ap-

Farm Aid
"All-out efforts to meet the
manpower needs of fanners in
Huron County will again be
made this year," according to
C. M. Jutras, Manager of the
Canada Manpower Centre at
Goderich.
Last year 75 workers recruited
locally were placed on farms
across the Country between the
months of May and September.
In addition, some 35 farm work-
ers were brought in from other
parts of Ontario and from the
Maritimes during harvest time.
In an effort to meet seasonal
requirements adequately, ar-
rangements are again being
made to supplement the farm
labour force in Huron County
by birnging in a number of
workers from Eastern Canada.
Many local and area farmers
have come to rely on/ labour
from the Maritime Provinces
made available through the Can-
ada Manpower Centre. Provid-
ing minimum conditions of em-
ployment are met, the cost of
transportation for these work-
ers is usually paid for by the
Government.
As the season progresses, the
demand for workers increases
and it usually becomes more
difficult to recruit sufficient
help, particularly during the
harvest period.
Mr. Jutras, Manager of the
Canada Manpower Centre at
Goderich said that in order to
assist his office in its effort to
meet the needs of area farmers,
it is important that employers
engaged in agriculture list their
manpower requirements with
Canada Manpower Centre at
Goderich.
And then there was the man
who wanted to drown his troub-
les but couldn't get his wife
into the pool.
