DEAR DORIS
advice from
Doris Clark
DEAR DORIS — I spoke
to our minister about the
problem that was disturbing
me as you suggested. Al-
though I have not yet reach-
ed the stage -where I can
face. the futtue as confidently
as one should, my life is hap-
pier and has more meaning
than ever before.
The doctor explained that
the sudden inactivity with no
family to bother about, caus-
ed the depression and anxiety.
Better Now
DEAR BETTER — That's
good news. If you are really
moving in the right direction,
you'll get there. --
Too often we bottle it all
up, when there is sOmeone
close at hand who could help
us take n new look at 03.1r -
selves and reduce our mon-
ster anxiety down to inouse
size — wher it belongs.
DEAR DORIS -- We mov-
ed from a large city to a
small village to relieve my
husband from the business
pressure. We bought a store.
Now I find I heartiy dis-
like the store. My husband
has nothing but complaints
for the, while the girl he hi-
ed can do no wrong. I do all
the buying and letters.
I find myself disliking him
more every, day. He's so nice
to everyone but us.
Really Troubled
DEAR TROUBLED — Being
in the company of the same
person all day every day,
every night and week ends
puts a terrific strain on a
gal. You went all the way in
solving his health problem;
now you are whipping the
boy for all imperfections in
his. store. Human, but even -

year completes 20 years as
head of the school. He is the

position since the school was
established in 1879.
tiiauy unbearable.
You would make a better
wife, and he a better husband,
if you called it all off; your
part, I mean. Resign. Move
back into the home and make
a fresh approach to being a
wife end mother. Otherwise
I see a breakdown looming
up,. ahead.
DEAR DORIS — Would
you please forward the de-
tails for the Toastmistress lit-
urature? I could sure use
some.
The last time I had to speak
at a banquet, I thought all
the cotton from Georgia was
in my mouth. God bless you
for your help and understan-
ding.
Mind A Blank
DEAR BLANIc ”— Few are
born orators. Most of us tend
to stammer the first few
times we find ourselves on
our feet in front of an aud-
ience.
The International Toastmis-
tress Clubs came to Canada
from the south. More and
more branches are organiz-
ing across the country. To-
gether the girls learn meet-
ing procedures, speechmak-
ing, social poise — along
with., some fine extra-currib-
ular education. I'm sending
you the headquarters address.
DEAR DORIS — My nose
was broken when I was six.
I am now 14. 1 feel like cry-
ing every time I hear the re -
mak, "Look at her Roman.
nose." Whenever a guy looks
at me or stares real hard, I
get the impression that I aro
unbelievably ugly. It couldn't
be that I'm cute,
I am breaking out in pim-
les now and my eyes are like
frog eyes. My mother sAys
I have beautiful eyes but
what can you expect from a
mother?
Is there any way 1 can im-
prove my looks; or get some-
thing done to my nose? And
another thing, My teeth are
crooked.
Ugly Much
DEAR UGLY MUCH! —
Let's tackle one feature at a
time.
(1) Noses are for straight-
ening these days; usually
just a simple office opera-
tion.
,(2) The pimples are a well-
known sympton of adolescent
acne. I'm sending you my ten
cent leaflet about what to do.
(3) "Frog eyes?" You mean
they bulge? jf you aren't im-
agining thir your doctor is
the one to ask.
(4) Crooked teeth. Girls in
your age class are wearing
braces; and a few classes up
you'll find good-looking
straight -toothed smiles - re-
sult of same type braces.
• The nose -straightening, the
tooth straightening, the doc-
tor - these -all -cost money and
determination. How much are
you willing .to invest?
