A bake sale was held at the conclusion of the euchre. Mr. and Mrs. Don Rigby, Blenheim, and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Snell spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. S. Mc - Queen's 86th birthday. Mrs. Earl Rowe is spending a week in Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. J. L. McCloy and daughter Carrie of D Mills, spent the week -end with Mrs. McCloy's mother, Mrs. George Hess, who re- turned home with them to visit for a few days-- MRS. WILLIAM SHEPHERD Citizens of Hensall and com- munity were saddened to learn of the very sudden passing of Mrs. William Shepherd, a high- ly esteemed resident of the Village who died suddenly at her hothe Friday afternoon. The former Barbara Ellen MacKay, she was the daughter of the late William MacKay, .former principal of Hensall Public School. She- was 80. Surviving are her husband, two daughters, Margaret, Mrs. John Consitt, RR 1 Hensall; Barbara, .Mrs. A. L. Birosh, Lake St. Dennis, Quebec; two sons, • Jack, London; Donald, Hensel': two sisters, Miss Lil- lian MacKay, Windsor; Masion, Mrs. Alex Thompson, Tor-anto,; one brother, Professor Louis MacKay, Berkley, California; seven grandchildren. Public funeral services were held Monday from Bonthron Funeral Home, cohducted by Rev. Harold Currie. Temporary entombment in Hensall Union Cemetery Mausoleum, with committal in McTaggart's Cem- etery later. Pallbearers were: Harry Hor- ton, Harry Klungel, E. R. Davis, Jack Consitt, A. L. Eloise Klungel, 19 -month-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Har- ry Klungel of Queensway Nurs- ing Home, is a patient in the Sick Children's Hospital, Tor- onto. Mr. Harold Bonthron left Sat- urday by plane for a week's trip to Puerto Rico, awarded to him in a recent sides con- test. HULLETT World Day of Preevex was observed by the Burns UCW on Frinay at the home of Miss Jean Leiper. Under the leadership of Mrs. William Trewin, the following ladies took part in the service; M. Watson Reld, Mrs. Les Reid; Mrs. George Smith, Mrs. Pete Safvercla and Mrs. Jun Scott. Miss Jean Leiper told of Mrs. Rathie Selvaratnam of r Ceylon, who prepared the Service, which was used throughout the world. The theme of the international " service. was "Bear One An- other's Burdens". A prayer was read by Mrs. Eddie Bell. It was from the book "Are You Running with ,Me Jesus?", written by Mal- colm Boyd. Mrs. Bell, president, con- ducted the business session. Previous minutes were read by Mrs. Jim Scott. The treas- urer's report was given by Jean Leiper. A donation was made to help ' defray expenses of Youth Choir and Confirmation Class lunches. After 41 years of business of lumber and builder's sup- ply, A. Spencer and Son of Hensel' have this .week sold out to Ball Macaulay Ltd. of Seaforth a,nd Clinton. In 1927 Albert Spencer and his son, Walter, moved to Hensall from Exeter and op- ened the lumber yard which had been Closed for some . time. Int 1933 the business was taken over by Walter Spencer and since that time has served the ,p,u b throughout a wide area. In 1952 the mill proper was dos - troyed by fire but was re- built later that year. Mr. Spencer in discussing the transfer recalls that many pleasant years have been the result of doing business with area customers and carpen- ters and working with loyal employees. He said that dur- ing the past 41 years the firm has been particularly indeb- ted to two employees - John Farquhar who' was a steady employee followed by Aldon Vanstone (Roily) who has been with •the business her the past 24 years. Formal education can be put into roughly four categories; the acquiring of knowledge, formation of character, train- ing to earn a living and, the training of the intellect. A com- parison was made of past and present methods used in form- al education. Mrs. Murray stressed the importance of choosing an occupation suitable to the talents of those condern- ed and spoke of special schools for special talents, using as an example schools of nursing, etc. In conclusion she mentionedi schools for special children where every effort is made to train and help those children who have learning difficulties.
