DEAR DORIS
advice from
Doris Clark
'PROMISCUOUS PROBLEMS -
DEAR DORIS — In the nine
months wel were going steady
this boy had something to do
with me quite a number of
times. Then one night he sug-
gested we call it quits beeause
he did not think that he was
doing the right thing being
around me. He felt, he could
ruin my life.
• He also said I seem to draw
him. too close to me and most
of the time we go farther than
we should. He said he could
not manage without my help,
but he fails to realize that he
causes me to act the same way.
• Doris, his brother says I
should not accept him back
(they say he will be back in•
about two week's time): But I
like the boy very much, .and I
don't think 16 is too young to
know real love. 1 cannot stand
to give him up. What shall I do
if he comes back?
In Love
DEAR IN LOVE — This boy
thinks more of you than you
do of yourself. Better do as he
says, and keep him to it, too..
Once you have established a
habit of going all the way with
a particular boy it is well-nigh
impossible to break. Haven't
you heard that it is up to the
girl to set the limits?
You two have a terrific at-
traction for each other. but 16
is too young to know real love.
This physical thing is at best.
just a part of the lasting kind,
which usually deVelops later on
when people are more grown
up.
DEAR DORIS — 'Would like
to get your reducing diet to try.
•I„. am 50 years old, five -foot -
eight.
Tried different diets, with
ei-
ercises, but seem to be develop-
ing muscles and not losing
pounds; stay stuck at 180. •
Fat And Fifty
DEAR F. AND F. — There's
no Icarm in getting some mus-
cles. Most of us ,get far too
little, physical exercise for
health. But do you work up an
appetite and then break down
your diet in favor of a hearty
meal? -
Dieting means eating less', aIl
the time, than your body needs.
Dieting means counting calories
and not making any exceptions,
Dieting to reduce means insur-
ing a healthy old age. Pm send-
ino you "A Simple Reducing
Diet".
Eat smaller helpings; eat
smaller bites; eat fewer sugar -
sweet desserts. Diet as if you
meant it. Xeep count of calories,
weight measurements. Promise
yourself. an Easter outfit when
you lose ten pounds.
DEAR DORIS — Whenever I
do anything' which creates ten-
sion, I start shaking. It is be-
coming noticeable, I have seen
three doctors, and they all tell
me I am as healthy as can be
physically and 'prescribed pills
that had no effect.
A- have a wife and two child-
ren, at 26, and am doing well
financially, although it has
been a struggle. I am on the
most friendly terms with my
relatives but they objeqted to
my marriage at first.
.,I.Censtant Jitters
DEAR JITTERS — Usually
an •uncontrolled action of the
body stems from some dishar-
mony within the body. What
worry is left over from that
struggle far economic indepen-
dence? Just how deep was the
rift with relatives, which you
say is now healed?
Ask. yourself .whether there
are still areas of your life
about which there are vague
dissatisfactions. Is there some-
thing you do not want to face?
A counsellor could help ,you
get it out and look at it, what-
ever it is.
Confidential to Worried Sick
— There's a dandy booklet cal-
led "Illness — How Can I Help
My, Child?" turned out by the
Department of National Health
and Welfare. Siekness can 'be
upsetting to a child, in More
ways than one. 11 a parent makes
too little of it, she.,may be
stifling a child's fears, instead
of explaining things; • if she
fusses over him he may be-
come demanding and spoiled
from then on.
