sible that Alexander McNeil may be in-
duced so far to forego his desire for
peaceful retirement as to again contest
North Bruce, in view of what he regards
as "the dreadful condition of public
affairs." If so, it would, the World says,
be as an Independent Conservative, for
he would not accept a party nomination.

Cheese and Asparagus —Prepare a
bundle of asparagus for cooking and

Spinaoh Eggs.—Boil four eggs hard,
cut in half, and remove yolks, rubbing
the latter through a fine sieve. Have
ready some spinach, well -seasoned and
mixed with a little fresh butter and
cream; fill the hard-boiled whites with
the mixture, place in a shallow buttered
fireproof dish, and pour a good white
sauce over the whole. Garnish the tops
with the yolks of the eggs and place in
a quick oven to brown.

The Royal hotel, Meaford, which was
purohased last fall by the temperance
people of the town in anticipation of
local option coming into force in May,
has been leased to hotelkeer MoGlrr,
who will run it as a regular lioensed
house. The situation is peculiar be-
cause the owners of the premises are
opponents of the licensed bar, and some
of them are ministers. The local option
by-law failed to carry.

The butter shipments from Montreal
for the week ending Sept. 18, were 6,098
packages. For the same week last year
12,166 packages were shipped. No ship-
ments were made for the week ending
Sept. 14, 1907, from New York, com-
pared with 3,875 packages for the same
week a year ago. The combined ship•
ments from the above ports for the sea•
son since since May 1 are 62,843 pack-
ages. Last year's s`iipmente for the
same period. were 394,995 packages,
showing a decrease this year of 332,152
packages.

farmer brought his lambs to town and
sold them for 40 per pound. He felt it
keenly because if he had feed he calcu-

At Sydenham, Ontario, 16 miles from
Kingston, is located the largest mica
mine in the world. The product is most-

Within a year, or at latest eighteen
months, steamships with an average sea
speed of twenty two knots per hour
will be crossing the Atlantic between
Liverpool and Quebec, thus cutting the
voyage down within the five day limit.
This is a portion of the C. P. R. pro-
gramme which will bo submitted to the
stockholders at the annual meeting in
October. The idea le to construct two
vessels of twenty -two -,knots replacing
the present Empress steamships on the
Atlantic. The Atlantic liners the
Empresses of Britain and Ireland will
then be transferred to the Paoifio, better-
ing that service by at least two knots
per hour.

was run over and killed by Frank Mur-
phy's automobile some time ago, has
been awarded a verdict of $60 and coats
in the Division Court.
Chas. Doan, aged 40 years, a well-
known farmer in Crowland Township,
was killed Thursday night, being run
over by t threshing engine.

The death occurred in Seaforth on
Tuesday, Sept. 24th, of one of the pion-
eer residents of th' community in the
person of Mr. Robt. Turnbull, who
passed away at the age of 87 years, from

Turnbull, until a few years ago, resided
on the second concession of MoKillop
and was one of the most prosperous
farmers of the township.
