Judy McMichaelis the former Judy Thompson, a Seaforth areanative and graduate of SDH$,) The proprietor of a new health food store in Goderich finds people, are more nutrition conscious and will. go out of their way to shop for natural unrefined foods. Judy McMichael of Dun- gannon says her customers have been very encouraging since she opened her store on Hamilton Street, three weeks ago, They are grateful we have opened ''the store be- cause they won't have to drive to Stratford or Kin- cardine to buy natural foods, says Judy.' Jana Health Foods offers a • variety- of flours, beans, grains, legumes, oils, nuts,. seeds, dried fruits, 'pasta.': cheeses, goat's milk, spices,.. herbs, herbal teas, granolas, bulk peanut butter, local honey, apple' butter, molas- ses, Perth County, and Astro yogurt, an vitamins. Ii fri r riiet. Loci o .. ar 9 P p .. .Yudy and her husband, Art, have found the use of health foods in their diet has cut down on the cost ot, groceries because buying in bulk is cheaper than buying packaged foods. Unrefined foods are tastier says Judy and'better for you; because they are growp: with- out chemicals and there are no preservatives added.. There is more bulk to a health food diet and you don't :eat as much. Art has. lost about 50 pounds since he started eating health foods. You eat less meat says Judy but you don't have to become a vegetarian to enjoy health foods. Health foods aren'tnew according to Judy. "It's real- ly going back`' to the same way of eating as our grand- parents." Many of the products are the same as those purchased in a grocery store except they are unrefined: The shelf .life of health foods is : shorter' because there are nopreser- natives added', but you can buy in bulk so you buy as' much as you can use before its shelf life ends: 'Health, foods are what their name implies - healthy -' because the vitamin content isn't lost through refining. Judy decided to open the store because she had experience working: with a friend who has a health food, store in Marlbank, near Belleville.
