Sno>ti. Wha:ddaya mean Snow?' it's Only
October.
The sight of the .fluffy white stuff,dyring;
the 'last :two weeks was a shock to almost
esery.Otte. After all, the leaves were still on
the trees. It's only Autumn It's not
DON'T i.,OOiC SO SHOCKED -- We all know that winter-aN snow -is
coming. This picture, taken last January, was one way to help prepare
people for the Inevitable -cold season which is, quickly approaching, But
winter can be enjoyable, as this snowmobiler seems to indicate;
r
to
.suppgsed to. snow until' wine et,
However, the hospitals have net noted a
sharp rise in heart attack victims yet. This
could be due in part tothe fact that snow at
this time of year is, not all, that uncommon.
Snow appears,,anytime it pleases, despite
what we want or hope.
But if you were to ask me, t,vould say
that the people in this area, the snowbelf
people, acutally like snow. ]I, guess, it kind of
grows on you, so to speak.' This is not to say
that everyone enjoys it. Nor is it to, say that
most people prefer it over summer, I think
that all the complaining you hear about the.
snow is mainly just a front. It is expected.
Deep, down inside, though, we all enjoy
winter to a certain extent. What would
Christmas be like without snow?
What do you like about Winter? Does it
give you a good excuse for heading South
for a while? D ,es a hold the possibility of
unexpected but gladly received .daysoff
from school or work? •
SPORTS ENTHUSIAST
If youare an avid, sports enthusiast,.
snow meansan entirely different type of
activities. Cross country skiing seems to
have been the rage for the past few years,
° and should continue to be, as Canadians
become more physical fitness conscious. In.
areas where some good hills are to be had.
downhill skiing can't be beat, In Seaforth,
the best you could do is to find a fair sized
snowbank and •tr r ;ye=t+ bet, but don't.
expect: much.
Altbugh many Might argue the point, the.
best way that ;l know to enjoy the snow i4,11, •
ride ,on a snowmobile along a good trail,
Trails are hard to,c. ome by in this region. of
flat,,>elear land,. Md good trails are almpst
non-existent..
Snowmobiling is not cheap, and;
probably never will be. But it: is not all that
expensive either, A good machine ranges:
in price from $1,59'0•$3,500.And the
snowmobile being made now are ;good,,
Given proper care and handling, they don'ts
break down, as was, the problem with the
ones of 10 or 15 years ago, They can be
both a means of recreation and a mode of
transportation.. Especially in a climate with
winters as harsh .as we 8et here, these
machines are valuable in that they will go;
where cars and even fOur.wheel drive
Vehicles won't.
Now is the time to be thinking about
getting your snowmobile out of storage and
into condition. We have already seen that
winter is en, its way.
There are plenty pf spectator sports.
during the winter, the most common of
course being hockey,Srcurling and
broomball. That is fine, but don't forget to.
participate yourself.
Try it, you'll like it.
