BY > APO—Ci ER Have you, ever beard the Seaforth District High School Girls" Band play on '.a Wednesday night? For .most people who live in Seaforth, Otis is theonly time they ever hear the girls play, We do, playfor the Fall Fair parade and in other parades near the area but not too many people outside of the band Know what they do. Lately it has been rush rush, rush with hardly any time for Charlie to blow his whistle at some of the girls who are as Charlie says: "looking for pennies" during the parade! During the week. of Sept. 17 to 24 we had four. parades to march: in. Our very first Fall Fair Parade Classified Ads .pay divid- ends. An Expositor Classified. will pay you dividends. The next parade was in. Dungannon. "It was really Bola and windy" said Laurie. "They had good food." Good really cold: on our hare togs. We had that parade the day after Brussels. The best parade for Eileen Buffy was :the Seaforth parade, Eileen is also a grade nine student. "It was the, best "cause You could see the people that yore knsli5'," She adds. You recognize the spectatora• and they aren't just strangers staring at you. Another reason that the Seaforth parade is the one that :all of the girls had been looking forward to: for weeks! We really enjoyed it although the parade was "4 areal killer" as Untie' knclntosh ;describes i � f. Iwtleen Duffy said "ft was the worst parade because it was so hot and long!" Joanne Albert really enjoyed the Flowing Match too because there was a lot to See, For this parade we were blessed with two chartered buses instead nf'one school food really helps after a long; parade. Joanne said that the parade was O.K,considering how cold the weather was Huron Centennial at Bannockburn. GRAVE V. CLAS$ VISITS; CONSERVATION ATION ARE S R A. E On Friday, September 28., Mr: Kemps, Grade 5 Class went to Bannockburn .Wild life Area. When we got,there we each split up into groups, There was three leaders, John, who works for the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority, Mr. Laye the other Grade • 5.. teacher and Mr. Kemp. We all took different fer nt trails through the woods,, ra We had sheets to fill in and some kids collected material' for a project. Lots of children saw animals like fish, toads, ants, grasshoppers, and squirrels;. We also saw plants such as dolls eyes, wild ginger, Solomon Seal, and cinquefoil .Besides we found lots of TRYING HIS LUCK-SDHS principal Bruce Shaw tries to sink a basket duringthe turkey shoot at the high school on Friday afternoon. .(Expositor photo) • HCS tours orchar Thursday ,and Friday, September 27th . 'and 28th, the Kindergarten.and Grades 1 and 2 and their teachers, Mrs.. Walter, Miss Quercn- gesser, Mrs. Bosman and Mrs. Hoernig with some mothers volunteering went to the Maitside apple orchards, They left each morning at 9 a.m. and were welcomed by Mrs. 'Cardiff, the owner's wife. She showed them how tro make apple cider, apple butter and how apples were produced and stored. Before they left they filled their bags With apples. The next day the students made apple pie, apple sauce, apple crisp and' they enjoyed it very much. Win at soccer At the Soccer Tournament in Brucefieid'. on October 3, the boys from • !fuller won;' 1, game, tied 1 game and !oat 4 games, The girls from Hul- let won 2 games, tied 1 game and lost 3 games. Hallett CS has newspaper Tiftc newspaper staff at Hallett has Sbawit 'S fa and 'Glenyce McCLinchey as editors. Reporters are Lisa Mixer, Russell Nesbitt, Jeff McNair and Susan Gross. After r everybody did that we went on the bus back to the school.' By Martha Hook CONSERVATION' AREA Mr. Kemp's Grade V class was on a trip to Bannock' burn Wildlife Area on Friday, September 28th, 1979 to find out about other communities. We saw signs of raccoons and other animals: John Small was our director. He` works for the :Ausable . Bayfield Conservation Authority. We saw trees that. woodpeckers have been in., We played games. We cut pieces of wood off trees and guessed the kind oat. We took; pictures of our group in the woods. We went to the :. cemetery. by Suzanne Dallas'., CONSERVATION AREA VISITED BY GRADE 5 On Friday, September.2Sth Huron Centennial Schools 5A Class left for Bannockburn Wildlife Area at9:05. By the time we arrived it was 9:30. Accompanied by teachers Dave Kemp and "Bob Laye. and °Conservation Authority Officer John Small the Grade 5's hit the trail. For the most of the •morning the Grade 5's studied trees,' and plants and looked for signs of animal • life: When .lunch time rolled around the grade' 5's had: finished the. trail at last. When lunch had been eaten,. the main event started for the kids. It was, the Tug -o' War. • The 'boys" champ was Jon Ferris. The girls` champ was Laura McDonald. Next we hiked to Baird's 'Cemetery: We took some rubbings and • looked for the oldest tomb - Stone. When we were picked. up by the bus, we received a butter tart made by Mrs.. Laye. It was fun, ' By Steven Beane THE. CEMETERY Bannockburn started . in 1973 to preserve the Bannock. burn River. The acres are 61, Grade SA went to Bannock- burn on Friday,- September 28th and went on the nature trail,. There were two bridges, The first bridge was over Walden Creek which adds 'on to the Bannockburn River: We saw a raccoon hole in a tree- and woodpecker hole too. Therewas a tree that had rotted, away.. Also we;saw an ironwood tree and brush piles. Finally we went back to the bits and ate: Then we hada tug of war. I'm sure there • bus with no air conditioner. The Plowing .Match was really fascinating for ail us, There was sq match to see• HAPPY BIRTHQAY.„ Happy Birthday Wishes go t.+a Nada . Farag of Seaforth, who celebrated her seventh birthday on Friday October 5, were alot of girls• who would have -really likedto stay., at the International Plowing Match and the Exeter Parades a lot longer, A lot of the girls had to work so every one had to leave by a certain time. On Saturday September 22 the band paraded in Exeter. Laurie McIntosh said "It, was. excellent!" The weather conditions were really good so we could enjoy it without worrying about catching pnemonia or having to do a strip show in the middle of the parade because you ate so hot.. People would sure remember the Seaforth Band then The next parade. was the • • • and to eat. That made it a very enjoyable visit, it was a very nice day for anyone who was not marching in parade! It seemed 'like the .long parade was never going to end. On the way down and the Way back to Seaforth we stopped at a , restaurant to have brunch and supper.' Not too many of us were hungry at supper becau se we had been eating all day. One of the mostexciting things was. appearing on . T.V. on.. Channel 13. It was ,quite a thing . to see Mary Murray twirling her baton on our own "boob tube''. Our last parade was in Ripley. Laurie McIntosh says ! mat M �. At this parade we went through: our marching routine that' took a few minutes after the end of the Parade. The people seemed 1R,o really :enjoy ,us. That was the last parade untilprobably the Santa Claus parades that will be starting in November. The band is now learning: some new songs to play when we go to Florida in February. ,Eileen Puffy says she is really looking forward to going to :Florida? lot of girls like myself have never been ,rrsrtsU, and don't know exactly what to expect" .Going to Florida Will be lots of fun but only if we can raise .enough. money 'to' pay for all: of the members to go.: down.A couple of weeks ago; at the Ciderfest the band had a booth and raised :a cattle over $100"00. We are now planning to .have .another gara8e sale and sell things. similar to the things, sold, on Sunday.
