Well, perhaps this May all change. At
the present time at Seafonh District High,

at the first of the' year, to help them;
do clop the skill and the knowledge Of the
game necessary to compete against the
more experienced ones., This aid corneS
the form of reserving the 6:30 to 7:30 *hue
slot specifically for them. Some of the
senior players, as well as, the staff acboisersh
spend this time during the firat .severak
weeks teaching the fundamentals of the
game to the newcom ers.
The four students who are in charge of
the club are volunteers. and this activity
will be taken into consideration ,as part of
their physical education course mark, At
the present time. they are trying to get the
club members memberships in the OntariO
Badminton Association. Those who join the
School, two badMinton programs are being
run. These are open to anyone of high
school age or older (yes, even for the
seniors in the arca), and are separate from
regular school activities,
The SDHS badminton club meets every
Tuesday evening from 630 tn.400. The
club is being run mainly by four grade 12
students -- Denise Albert, Denise Lane,
Darrell Dietz and Dennis Nielsen -4 with
help from. staff advisors David Qnn and
George Ring.
The first night that the club met, about
60 students showed up. This number soon
dropped to about 30, as is usual. The large
'•amount scares off many less enthusiastic
• players when they realize the one 1:4g
,• problem facing the dub. SDHS has only
• one gymnasium, which is only latge
enough for 3 badminton courts., This means
that a maximum of 12 players can be active
. at any time. If 60 players were to compete
•Tor court time, one might be lucky to get, in
two games in the evening. That' S just a

The other joadminton organization is the
night coursdIt SDHS Wednesday evenings
from $ pap. to 10 p.m. It is being run by.
'pliyscial education department head Terry
Johnston, and is. for all the laldtimers' in
town (that is.- anyone above the high school
age).
The group started meeting last week,
when siX women and two men showed up;
Johnston hopes that this could be raised to
12 or 14, so that a good set of tournaments
among the members can be organized,
