Frank Phillips, an RCAF
veteran who, was injured in
action, perhaps, has a special
reason, for wanting to recog-
nize the contributions of local
veterans who fought in both
world wars.
He wasthere, and he
knows first hand about the
sacrifices that were made.
Frank is also a history
buff, who has perhaps, "500
books, and dozens of other
items" in his personal war-
time
artima collection. Thatled: him
to visit war museums all over
Canada and Britain and to, an
appreciation of how rare and
valuable old uniforms: and
memorabilia are,

"1 hated to see this stuff
being thrown out and lost,"'.
he says and often when a
veteran died, his family.
would donate his or her war
artifacts to the Legion,

in 1974,.Frank, .started put-
ting together a,:collection. that
included mementoesfrom
LEGION. MEMORIES — Peter arid' Margaret Bannon, both members of
the Seaforth Legion, were among many visitors who wandered through
the 50th anniversary display of photographs andwar mementoes at the
Legion ' this summer. The collection was assembled by Frank Phillips
and his wife and included photos of all the Legion Members in their
military uniforms.

In the last few years, more
and more has been donated
and this summer Frank
mounted a huge'display of
wartime photos and artifacts.
at the Legion in honour of the
branch's 50th anniversary.
It includes. several really
rare; items, like a Royal
Flying Corps uniform from.
the First War which be-
longed to. 'Ned ` Boswell's
brother. "I've only seen one
other and 1 don't think there
are any in; .Canadian mus-
eums," Frank says.
Also in the collection are a
'crest: from' .the old 161st
regiment found in: the late
Hector Chesney's barn, the,
Ante Alec . Muir's.--original
World War I uniform, com-
plete with kilt. the. late Col.'
Alec' Wilson's helmet and a
uniform from the 33rd Battal
ions and.Les Beattie's Dist-
inguished Flying Cross,
A few of these. articles are
on permanent display at the
Legion. And Frank. Phillips
hopes the addition now being,
planned for the building will
provide space for more.
