that lie ahead, Even with

the ;month of October is
Ruing •to be a- busy One,
First of all, to. start our
month off is the one :event
that we all::swear ,that w'e'll
start our diets after - Thanks-
gixing weekend, This gives
school age kids a holiday and
mothers a chance to, see how
strong their will power is as
far as dieting goes in front of
a turkey and pumpkin pie.
Thanksgiving day is a good
chance to see your "grandma:
and grandpa" and your new
born baby cousin- that you
haven'thad a chance to see.
Sharon:. Ginty who is six
Yeats old: and lives: in Harp
urhey says "I'ni going to my
Grandma's house in Niagara
Falls. for Thanksgiving.'"
When f asked her what she
liked; .most about Thanks-
giving she said "the food.;''
Like most kids in grade one
Sharon likes Thanksgiving
and will probably be making
some Thanksgiving pictures,.
Sharon saidthis would be
"lots of fun."
Scott Teal!, 8 years old of
Seaforth said he liked
Thanksgiving because "`We
get turkey: and lots of sttwff-
ingl When ,1 :asked him.
what Thanksgiving is all
about, he answered "Getting,
together and eating' turkey:."
• My next question to Scott'
was "How do; you think,
Thanksgiving began?'" It e-

Thanksgiving is the `Horn p'
Plenty or the. Cornucopia
According to Gteek Myth-
ology, there are two stories
about the Horll: of Plenty
origin. ,Its one" Hercules and
a .river god had a contest.
When the river assumed the
form of the bull; Hercules
took one of the horns, oft of
the bull and 'fjlled it with
!flowers for the goddess Sof
pignty. In the other story,. the
feasted on wild turkey and
vegetables from their crops.
The reason they did and we,
still, do celebrate Thanks'
giving in October is because
in October the farmers, are.
just finishing harvesting; and
they have a good crop to be
thankful for,
The first American
Thanksgiving was celebrated
less than a year after the
Plymouth colonists had
settled in the new land, The:•
first bad winter in Massa
chusetts. had killed nearly
half of the colony; The good
crop that year brought much :.
happiness to the remaining,
colonists. Governor William
Bradfordannounced that a.
day. .
should be held to cele=
brate. In Canada, since 1957,
Thanksgiving Day has been
