Ivan Norris: of 'R.R.2, Staffs, owner 'of the dairy herd
shown in the photo above, moves his cattle across the
Cromarty road about four times a day, -
The farmer's dairy •'barn is one the family's 100 acre
home farm, while the cattle are usually pastured on his 200
acre farm across the road,
Mr. Norris admits it's unusual these days to see cattle
crossing the highway but said he remembers walking to
school as a boy and seeing cattle pastured right on the side
of the road.
Mr.' Norris said in those days, most farmers kept at least
a few cattle and most' farms. were fenced in. Today, this
r times a clay
isn't the cases with fewer ,.farmers; ,raising beef or 'dairy
cattle.
Mr; 'Morris said he moves his 40 -cow herd acrossthe
road on an average of four times a day. Although there are
cattle crossing warning signs 500 feet back he said the
problem} is that many drivers come "roaring up there and
don't see the. sign." He said he's always concerned that
sometime there might be an accident, and carries liability
insurance just in case,.
Hopefully now motorists using the Cromarty road will
watchfor the Norris herd around milking time each, day.
