Brussels BY DEBBIE RANNEY More and more people are trying to improve on their homes these days and Maurice and Mary Douma of R.R. .4,. Brussels are no exception. They've made a number of renovations to their ,farm house which they purchased m April and, moved into in July. The major improve- ments they made were in the kitchen and living room but there were also improve- ments made to the laundry and bathroom. Working on. all these" rooms included taking all . the walls off, insulating,' rewiring, dry walling and repainting. The Doumas only • needed to do this to one "•wall in the bathroom. Other improvements in - eluded <a .new wider kitchen '' window and a new front livingroom window. The Doumasalso had tochange where a register was located in the kitchen so they could put in all new cupboards. When they went to put iinsulation in their liviingroom wall the Doumas had a problem. ' The wall was double bricked.; A represent- ative of a building company suggested putting 2x4's over the existing vying and put= ting insulaton betWeen.` This gave her really wide window•;;. sills, Mrs. Douma said.. Although they've made many improvements to the house; the Doumas: aren't.. finished yet. Theywan' to. take the porch off and make a sundeck and Mrs. Douma said the whole upstairs needs doing. They want to insulate, rewire and re -drywall Most of it as well as redecorate. The Doumas had a .con tractor put ,' in ' the . new windows in their house. A .friend did the wiring, Mrs. Douma's, father did the '. plumbing and the Doumas did the painting and drywal- ling themselves with some .help.: once more from her father. .
