Last week was a very busy
week in the town of Seaforth:
a i Children and titer m
ltihed around their gardens
hunting for their prize
zinnias and tomatoes..
Farmers; waited a whole: year'
feeding their Sews and
horses, getting ready to show
them at the annual Fall. Fair.
The wait was well worth it as,
most of the people who
entered in the fair Walked out
of the fair Friday wth a< sfiile,
on their face,
Entering) ;your, e9W or
asters wits not the ,only
competition in the fair this
year. Last year the grade one
to. eightstudents wrote a
story or a poem with a given
topic for part of their English;
program, The teachers read
over the copies handed in to.
them and chose a number to:
be jud$ed at the fair, this;
year.
These are, : your own
individual effort .so if you
can't get Mother Nature to
give you a. hand, with your
pumpkins and tomatoes you
maybe able to come up with:
some thing in this section.
• It's also alot of fun to enter
the poster competition in the
fair. Each poster is carefully
thought of by the elementary
student who designs it' and is
made just the right way.
Each says its own message.
and means a lot to the people

The one disadvantage this
year was that there were not
as many girls in the pm,
petition. "More pedple
should go in so it's more
competitive'' Dianne
thought, Rianne was named
Miss, Congeniality last
Thursday night and received,
a, pretty necklace with an
engraved charm, from Kerr.
Campbell. "It was really nice
to be named Miss
Congeniality" Dianne said
"Especially when; 1 ,had so''
many friends and; neighbours
there to cheer me on."
Dianne's sister Estella
said "it's the getting
together with your friends and'.
having a real good time that I
like!", Estella thought that
with the horse shows and
dairy= cattle competitions it
would bring more people out
and get more people involved
as it did this' year.
Some other people that' 1'
was talking to thought that
entering some exhibits in the
fair was a lot of fun. "l like

BY DEBBY MERO
Cheerleading has begun
for, another year at S,D.}I.S.
For the last couple of weeks,
the 'experienced" Baby
'Bears have had the job of
"breaking in" the new girls.
This required a number of
late practices and •a lot of
practicing at home (which
isn't always easy)..
I' remember when 1
came home after my first ..
cheerleading practice in•
Grade .9. 1: had to keep going
over and over the same four..
• linecheer. all night, trying to
imbed it in my mind.
This isn't. easy with "Be
quiet, we're trying to watch
the television" coming from
the next room.
