Back on'Sunday, August 20, the Seaforth Squirts fastball team won the 'A' title of the Walton Fastball Tournment, They achieved this •goal by defeating the Sebringville team by a score of 8-6 in seven innings, On "their' way to, the win, Seaforth; trouncedWroxeter 20-1.1n the semi-finals,, the Squirts. downed Brodhagen 11-4, thus. allowing them •to move on to the championship against the yet undefeated' Sebriingville squad. - Scott. Driscoll was awarded • the most Valuable player award for his steady play in the final game, Teodd James and David Akey both receivedSi. bills for hittinB dean home runs, helping their team•on to the win: A clean homerun is one where the :player makes a complete circuit of the bases. from his own hit, without gaining any bases due to errors. The Squirtss,,coached by Jack Price, were. presented with the Don Achilles Memorial Trophy and a cheque for $40. In addition, each player received a medallion. Unfortunately for Seaforth; the . Walton 'tourney was just an invitational,` :and did not affect'leagtse, standings. The.. Squirts finished sixth in this, their first season of 60411, only, to be eliminated by. Mitchell. in a best of three semi-final _playoff round. The other team that has come out on'top is the Seaforth Junior Girls Soccer team, obii►che¢.by John Cifitns. The, team, called the, Seaforth Shamrocks, were the season.- diampions in their league, after winning 7 games, tying 2 and losing only ane. The Shamrocks played 5 other teams froth the tri -county area of Huron -Middle- sex-Lambton, The players range in age from 8-14 years, and for most of them, this is only their second year of organized soccer. The league itself is :only two years dd. Seeforth has a habit of producing winning teams, as was shown by both the Squirts and the Shamrocks, In the coming weeks as the summer winds down and the colder weather moves in, more and, more. teams, especially in baseball, will be wrapping up their seasons.: and playoffs. Be. sure to watch far the results of the competitions, as , well as the overall statistics from the various local groups. Although, all you sun loversdon't like to admit it, it won't be all that long before indoor sports take over as the winter moves in on us. Professional hockey teams will soon be starting their practises! What a discusting thought. Tuesday marked the beginning of a new school year, and with it, a new series of sporting events. Girls basketball and boys volleyball teams have • already started to practice, atthe high school with some seasonsopening as early as next week. Remember, all school snatches and games are always; open to the public, and relatives: and friends are certainly urged to attend. Anyone having team statistics or results' from any sport played locally is asked to contact the Expositor, so that we can let everyone know how well you did. People can't come out and; support a team if they don't know: that it exists. And of course, if your• winner, we'd like to hear ; n team is a about it.
