Thisincludes both the narrow -necked, torpedo shaped bottles and the wide-necked 1.5 litre bottle$, including; those equipped: with plastic impact tongs. The ban was announced by Consumer Affairs Minister Allan Lawrence. A number of the bottles have exploded, in the past, ;and the flying glass:. has injured consumers. The ban, under the 'Hazardous Products Act', will be lifted only when soft drink bottlers can demonstrate they have a 1.5 litre bottle which Won't project flying glass if it breaks "•$ecause there is no way for consumers to identify hazardous bottles and because it would be impossible for consumer and corporate affairs to test the millions of bottles involved. 1 regret that 1 have no choke but to introduce a ban on all 1,5 litre carbonated soft drink glass bottles on the market,'" Mr. Lawrence said; Bottlers say the popular sized bottles. represent about one-fifth of their sales.
