Darlene Coughtry has 'always. liked
crafts, se she is right at home lin the craft
shop she manages in Seaforth.
Darlene has taught herself macrame
from a book during her two weeks in
business, and now makes a variety of plant
hangers and haby-room organizers, She
also, makes furry stuffed animals willt
acrylic pile.
A large macrame plant hanger taken'
Darlene about five hours to make while she
runs the store. An organizer for baby
supplies with pockets and an inset baby
face takes her a day and a half to complete.
These Organizers are Parlene's own addl.
• ' tion to the craft store.
Darlene, who has always lived in
Seaforth used to, crochet frequently before
getting into the craft business. She now
crochets coloured doilies which frame
plastic baby faces as wall hangings. She
made her own Christmas gifts in the past,
especially with liquid embroidery which
she often still works with.
• Darlene finds her new job "quite a
change" from working at Seaforth Manor
where she was a nurse's aid. He new work
is rewarding and she gains special satisfac-
tion earn' holding a finished Product and
saYing, made that."
cRAFIrS CUSTOMERS
Darlene gets customers of all ages who
are interested in crafts, even the very
young. She has :Many sorts ..of Craft
Auppiies, but the biggest seller is Craft yarn'
which people use mainly for macrame.
Also popular are the "how to" books with
simple instructions for beginners right up
to detailed, intricate designs,
The materials for everything Darlene
makes are available in her shop and she
likes to See people make things themselves.
Darlene thinks that crafts are'a great hobby
and that there aren't as many people:
involved with this sort of thing as there
