(Expositor photo), MATCH POINT — Whether it's lessons, tournaments or just regul;at' :play, Seaforth's only two tennis courts almost always seem to be in use by people such as Katie Teale and Ron Scott, (Expositor Photo) Sport alk by Pawl Ellis; Tennis and you. Don t hold }your breath waiting for more ,tennis courts, Seaforth, -because if they come it won't be for several• -Years. . At the present' time, the only public tennis courts in town. are the two as :phalt ones at the high school. During the summer, theyare constantly in use. So why doesn't someone build more? The answer is easy. Money. New courts would cost at least S25,000,probably more! But how can other towns, such. as Mitchell, afford new courts? Well, there are several ways to get the funds. Here are the, main. ones. Government grants can be used to help ' finance athletic facilities,- including tennis courts. First, a figure representing the total cost of the project must be obtained from a contractor. Let's say that .figure. was $30,000. Of that, 25% would be covered by the Community Recreation Centres Act.. In 'this case,; that would be. S7,500. Wintario grants would pay:for % of the remainder, thus another S7,500. The one stipulationon the Wintario grant is that an equal arnount Must be raisedby, some means other than from tax funds,. This means public donations, either from, individuals ••or service clubs. This would take .care of more, leaving e $7,500 Ie mg th same amount to be raised any, way possible, such as. from `the municipality or local school. board. This seems simple. •One snag. Wintario has placed a two year freeze on all grants to provideatime of re-evaluation. So muchfor that idea. The town and/or the school board could build new courts. And why not? What's a mere $30,.000? Don't bet on it. The. next thing that comes to mind are the service clubs. After all, they're the. ones who' have built the local ball diamonds and swimming pool. The :Lions Club' has no plansto build courts, They once ran courts across the road from the Liens.. Park on propertynow owned by. Brad Smith, But they weren't heavily used and so were abandoned. Now the.remains include only a broken, heaved • cement court and a, bit of .fencing, . Larry Wesenberg, president., of the. Optimist Club in Seafortb explains that plans for courts • at their park in the south end of town have beendiscussed a few times, but no definite decisions were made. The main problem` is .that the club can't take en too;' much' at onetime. Last year they built riew'stands for the ball park, and this summer they are constructing new play ground equipment, which should. .be -:finished in a few :weeks, There :is a:good psosibility that such a .project could.' be undertaken in a few years, says Larry, but theball park comes first. One last way of obtaining the 'money is the most unlikely. There is a slight chance, that some wealthy individual may see. fit to part with enough of the ; green stuff to finance new tennis courts for Seaforth players: Any volunteers? riders for Varna Over 300 riders are expect- ed for this Sunday's race, at the family 'motor sport park ;: near Varna. This lure, called the Frisky Fly was the brainchild of Walt Rogers in Klamath: Falls,, Oregon, and was one of the most popular lures for steelhead- ing; and salmon fishing out there. Being a curious person, and always wanting to find THE lure Which will always catch fish, I got in touch. with Walt and ordered a dozen assorted colours and sizes. of Frisky Flies. Because they were so hard to get in the east, 1 hoarded them, and only dug one out on the occasion "to give it a try," Over the course of the next 3 years, I managed to lose`them all and since replacements wero not readily available, (plus the fact that I'd lost the original address) the Frisky Fly slowly faded from my mind. Then; it happened to me again. About a month ago,1 saw an ad for the Frisky Fly. I startedto think back to my original dozen and how they had performed. The more. I; thought, about them,, the more amazed i became that I didn't "pick up" on their astounding, success while . it was actually happening. 1 suddenly realized that: (1) i' only used the Frisky Fly when nothing -else seemed to work, and caught fish with it; (2) all my flies were lost as a result of a "break off" wheni was playing a fish. - not one on a snag;` (3) rainbow, cohoe, brooktrout and bass all fell for the lure; and (4) when the Frisky Flies were gone, 1 no longer had an ace 'in the hole that 1 could count on. Now I'm back in business because the Frisky Fly- is still available, and moving, East, The. Frisky .•Fly is an unconventional` looking lure.: manufactured from a moulded, plastic surrounding a:single barbed hook,. The real. secret .to the lure, however, lies with the connector link attached to the eye; of the hook. It is this linkwhich lets the lure. Vibrate and vibrate it does. If the lure is working, you can feel it. The throbbing transmits itself up the line, through the rod and into the reel, and from my experience; . if. that throbbing stops, set thehook because you've got'a fish on. • • 1 just .recently '.got .a hold of another oxen so -I'm going to give them a good Work out this summer. YOU know, pack up a bunch of ice and food in a picnic cooler only to find a day later that everything is floating around in a bunch of water. There are a couple of fairly easy solutions to this problem. One is to use the commercial ice packsthat are readily available and can be re -used indefinitely. The other, that 1' find handy, is, to, buy a couple of plastic quart containers with. screw on tops. Fill.' these with orange juice, freeze (leave a space at the top and the top loose whilefreezing) and use these to keep, your food fresh. The orange juice can be used up as it thaws just leaving a couple of empty containers to pack up for the trip, home. ***s•** if you are ;going hunting this fall, remember you need a Firearms Acquisition Certificate in order to buy or borrow a gun. The certificate costs $10,00 and applic- ations are available at sporting goods stores or your local 0;P,P. office. It takes sometime to process applications, so now is the time to acquire one if you think you might have any need for 'it. It is suspected that a flood of applications will occur as the hunting season approaches, delaying the processing time even more. If you leave it too late. you may. find you don't have your F.A.C. in time for that hunting trip you are planning. The MinistrY of Natural Resources has announced that there will be a raccoon season from now on. Starting this fall, raccoons can only be hunted or trapped. from October 15 to December 31 in any year. it is hoped that this move will help increase the pelt quality of 'raccoons received for, auetion.at the North Bay fur sales. • Apparently in the past, up to one third of the pelts received were of poor quality as a result of being harvested either too earlyin the fallor too Tate in the spring. le' T 2ORDIYIsiON; TANDY ELECTRONICS'.
