Yankees invading!
The Americans are coming! The. Amer-
icans are coming!
But there's no need to head for the hills
because we're meeting them with an army
of over a hundred strong.
No, we're not being invaded from the
South, It's justthe second annual Seaforth-
West Branch Games. And our army
consists of athletes, playing on the 11
teams in both male and female compe-
titions in assorted sports that go on all
weekend,.
Due to the demise of the community
recreational program • in our sister city
West Branch,Michigan, things
W c were a
little bit slow in getting organized. It was
only last week that Seaforth recreation
directorClive Buist received final confrrh-
C 1
ation on what teams would be coming up
from Michigan, but now everything is set.
The athletes should arrive in town by about
4:00 p.m. this Friday, and thefirst games
start at 7 p.m. •
One of the first events to take place will
be the first of three boys soccer games. The
Seaforth team is coached by Larry Dolmage
and: consists of boys 14 and under. The
team is being chosen by the coach, instead
o • beinga regular organization.

The basketball boysaske ball team^' is based
mainly on the Seaforth high school senior
team, but only because these are the guys;.
who are interested in playing. Coaching
during practices is ''Dan Maloney. He feels •
that the team will do "pretty good. We've
got the height." Rick Fortune will be
coaching for the games.
The regular Seaforth. Pee Wee team will'
be representing the town for boys baseball.
Coach Rick Dale says, "I think we'll give
them a good run this time." The 13 players
are all 12 or 13 years old.
Julie Twynham is taking an active part in
this weekend's events, as she coaches.
three teams. For the girls volleyball, ages.
give..
generously!
15-19, she thinks the games will' be .close,
as they were last time. The girls basketball
teamsis better this year; but they are still
the underdogs. Julie is also involved with
the track and field. team, ` along with Joe
Verberne. The team has been practising at
the high school every morning, and: should
havea good chance'at winning some of the
events.
Girls softball is for players 14 years of
age and under. The team ;is. comprised of
girls from both of the two local minor girls
baseball teams, and is being coached by
Barb Wesenberg, Shirley. Dinsmore and
Joanne Matthews. Their first game will be
held at 9 a.m. Saturday morning:
John Cairns will' be running the girls
soccer team, which is for girls 14 and
under. Last summer in West Branch
Seaforth, dominated all the :soccer, and is
expected to do so again this time:
Men's fastball will be played by a team
with representatives from all the men's
recreational league 'teams, Each captain
chose one player from his own team, then
coaches for the weekend, Terry Craig and,
Doug Bach, picked the remainder.
The men's slo-pitch will be loosely based
on the Winthrop Warriors as well as some
others from that league: Ed Salverda will
be coaching. The women's slo-pitch will be
one of the two local teams which 'plays
regularly.
All in all, it should turn out' to be a very
good weekend, if it's anything like last .
year. Julie Twynham expressed everyone's
thoughts well when she stated, "We're
playing it for the fun:"
One last reminder. Clive Buist is still
looking, for more billets to accommodate
the'100 plus athletes from West Branch, If
you can:help by taking in one or more for
the three days, please contact the recre-
ation' office at $27.0882. Remember,' we'll
be going down there next year.
