• EVELYN BROWN
Combine nature with talent and a flair
for rhyme and what do you get?
The Three Bears fashioned out of pine
cones, complete with their story in the form
of a poem,
• Evelyn Brown of liarpurhey first began
pine cone art for the United Church
bazaars, She now takes orders for her work
- and supplies the hospital with tray favours.
She doesn't stop at bears. She makes
birds and bunnies, dogs and reindeer,
squirrels and falcons, poinsettas and
partridges.
She first came across the idea to make
partridges when ding to visit a friend
• One Sunday, A. partridge flew through th• e
window of the car, breaking its neck. The
Browns used the bird, for food, and saved -
the feathers, •Mrs. Brown uses •them,
attaching them to a pine cone body as
wings.
To make her animals, she glues the
• cones, large ones for the body, small ones
if the beast requires..arms and legs, She
lets the glued appendages set for .a:day,
attaching: them in stages,. To make the
animals stronger, she sometimes uses FREDDY FALCON -
string. After the parts are in place, Mrs.
•Brown sprays the animal, usually with. Mrs• Evelyn Brown's

In addition to the poems that accompany
her pine cone creatures, Mrs. Brown writs
verse for other charactersittle Red -
Riding HOod, Jack in the Beanstalk, Snow
White, and the Three Little Pigs. She
hopes to 'compile them for children, but has
also contributed to the poet's corner in the -
Mississauga paper. •
Mr. and Mr.. Brown have two children,
a daughter in Rochester, and a son in
London. They have three grandchildren.
