That's what , rrtany Seaforth • and' area residents Will become a Wk fro mnowas we host the Strrond. Annual International Olympics between Seaforth and her sister city, West Branch, `Michigan. ' Despite several setbacks, the weekend of competition %till .be held, starting Friday, July 27, Itwill hopefully -include -a wide variety of sport's • men's and women's baseball, and sou er basketball, volleyball apd baseball .for both boys and girls. The. entire setup should. be ' similar to the games last year, hold in West Branch. A. that time, well over 100 people from Seafort} travcllett•• solath tor';.a'f weekend; and citie Vick after'many new friendships were started, ` Clive Buist, recreation director . in Seaforth, has rim into one" major snagin planning this year's events:. West Branch • dissolved it's community recreation' program a, fey months ago. This meant that a special volunteer .committee had to be formed to handle any sister 'city events,. including these gantes, However, volunteers can give nnly so; Much time to any project, and atone of them were among the major organizers last summer. 'This means that preparations. aregoing rather slowly. • .. The interest is certainly there, especially with those hoping to spendsome'time with the new friends they met .last summer. No definite, list of what teams 'will be coming has been received frt}nx•West Branch:: as of yet; but Clive expects to get final confirmation by the end of this week at the latest. T hen the pressuretivil 1 be on to get together . teams which will be able to represent Seaforth against our American neighbours. It will take some fast organization, but Clive doesn't foresee any great problems, as a lot of people have already expressed interest in either coaching or participating on each team. Most of the people who do compete play' on organized teams in their respective sports, so all that is needed is a little practice playing as a team. As was done in West Branch; the visiting nth letes will be billeted It the homes 'of, their Seaforth counterparts, About 65 billets have already been arranged, but more are still needed, as about 100 people will need accommodations. ".Anyone who can receive a billet for the Weekend should contact Clive at the recreation office. His phone number is 527-0882,: and your help would be appreciated.; 'Remember, last year. West Branch people housed our athletes, and probably will again next summer. Please help out now, as time is running short. Next' week, the Expositor expects to run a complete list of what teams will be formed: Keep it in mind, and try to get a few friends interested. Although the. official basis of the weekend is sports, the most important thing about it .is, the enjoyment and friendships created. As Clive put it, "It's just going to be a good, fun weekend." 54th Hodgert reunion held The 54th annual lfodgert Reunion' was held at Queens Park; Stratford, Oat, on July 14, 1979, Races, 'candy scramples and, a ball•gatn:e were afternoon events.
