Babysitting One Of the
major jobs that a girl Might
take on . I'm not the best
babysitter in the town, that'S
for sure but I've done a, little
r.. ,...... •
bit of, reading and I've been,
asked to do 4 column• for
• young babysitters and mot-
hers to give a few Ong ghtmt
babysitting.
To the babysitter:
Always be sure the parents
give you full instructions So
there are no questions in
your mind. Also make sure
you get the children's names
right.
When you get the instruc-
tions, follow them carefully
so that the children don't
switch the instructions
around. If One of the chil-
dren get hurt, even a sprain-
ed finger or flu, call the
'parents at the number they
left you,
If the parent' ts arent avail-
able, the next thing to do is
phone a local doctor. When I
read this, 1 was surprised
because I figurer: 1 could just
phone my Mom.
If there was ever a fire or
smoke, get the children out
of the house with no hesita-
tion. Take the children to the
nearest neighbour, then call,
the fire department, then the
parents.
•
Never leave the Children
alone in the house even for a
minnte. Don't open the door
IQ anyone, If there are ever
any window knockers don't
Panic, espeetallY if the child -
Ten are awake- This just
recites them and they Won't
1,'tobed.
Just remember that it's
only kids your age. If they try
to get in and you can't get
hold of your Parenta, pliOne
the Police!
In the book "Sitting Sa-
fely,” +they suggested some
different ideas for amusing
different ages.
Babies up to six months'
love to touch your fascinating
rings, Usually mothers don't
like to leave their babies this
age with a babysitter, It's
alwaysfun, to spoil and
cuddle a baby this age but
VS not a great idea because
the patents wee't be able tO
stand them when they get
home.
Kids any older than six
months area Attie harder to
watch because they are al-
ways moving around.
If a child is shy just let him
o 0
or her alone with a favonrite,
toy until he gets used to you.,,
ft'a. sometimes nice to take
colouring books and Prar*
for the kids to play with,
Always show them, who is
the boss and that you are not
going to change their bed
time just because they're
begging you. Most parents
don't mind if you fall asleep
after the kids are settled if
they're going to be late.
To mothers whohire baby-
sitters, it's always nice to
have somethings for the
babysitter to munch on. For
the first couple of times that
a: baby sitter babysits for
you, try to stay in town so
that she can get in touch with
you until she gets to know
the kids, a, little bit better.
Whether you're the baby-
sitter or the mother, babysit-
ting is fon and a good
e xperience,
We need your help' in
keeping a kids page so if you
have any pictures, stories, 9r
ideas, please write to;

Kindergarten- visited the
Seaforth Community' Hosp-
ital last week, Although we
'
were delighted with • our
treats of cookies and choco-
late milk, we were very
impressed with thelifeinside
a hospital. •,
We were.awed at the 'size
of the laundry tOOM and the
big kitchen and thought, the
small preparation, --kitthen
"pretty and cute". Some of
us. had •, never been in an
elevator before, so we liked
the "little room" that moved
Up and down whenyou push'
a button!.
When we approached the
nursery to see the baby ,girl,
Brent remembered When be
was in there! Many of us
have been in the hospital
before When we had .our '
tonsils out and we saw the
.bed we had been in. We
thought it would be fun if we
had hospital beds at home,
so we could make it go up
and down. ' •
We learned about th,e
x-ray machine and moving
table and we could even
"read" an x-ray now. We
saw kits of things and
learned much about how
people are helped to get well
by the many hospital work-
ers.
We think we wOuld like to
work in a hospital.When we
grow up! '
