Vansly:ke chose his text from St. Mark 31-37 which tells of Jesus healing the sick by a• touch .of the hand;. He went on to .enlarge by telling how hands were usedby peeple..He spoke of a handshake and how these ,varied from a firth grip. to a.. Esther Campbell • receives gift : Edelweiss Rebekah lodge met .on June 25th in the evening with Noble Grand Esther Campbell in the chair, The charter was draped for Nona Bilska, A letter of thanks was read; from Kathleen Cuthill. Jean Henderson's inaugu- ral meeting is to be held July 4th in the evening at Clinton, Milted. Kerr presented Esther Campbell with; a gift on behalf of the Past Brands club. A very interesting . and informative report of the Rebekah Assembly was giv- en iven by Rachel Riehl and Mildred Kerr The mystery prize was won 1,.by, . Margaret Carter; Western Ontario. with. a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. A graduate of Listowel' District Secondary School and Fanshaw College School of Nursing she is the wife of Maurice Nesbitt of London and a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bremner .of Ethel, She has accepted a position with University Hospital, London,. fDRILLING! O mere touch. We are very fortunate to have a beautiful park like the . Lion's Park for the use of the area people, It deserves our support. Hymns sung were. ''On- ward Joyful Christians," to the tune of Onward Christian; soldiers; "Kum Ba Yah, my Lord!: Kum Ba' Yah,", "He's got the whole world in .His, hands" were 'others.. A loud speaker had been set up in the. pavilion which took care of sound. As there was. "no organ or piano for accompaniment to the music - a ukelele and autoharp were used. Junior, intermediate and senior choirs, were pres- ent resent and contributed.. After the service the group went, to serve themselves from'.: the tempting table of goodies set up for :a picnic pot luck lunch. In groups they took their places at tables set out in the spacious wooded areas where, a social time was enjoyed. To.complete'a won- derful day we were invited to the J.A. Stewarts for a visit on‘' their lawn: Celebration pf the Lord's Supper was Was• held, with al), , proximately 1'1c �. ,t o. dance. In the "$t'rvice Alli' memorials ,which had bee n given over the last 144 years of the congregation's life were re dedleated and the t;ongregatton stood In respect to the Memories of those in whose name the .me.mortal$. were given. The oldest gift is that of .a Baptismal Bowl, and Cont- munion Set which were sent from Britain to Egmondville when. the Church; was a Presbyterian Cureh of Scot- land, Along with the rededi- cation of the Memorials and their own vows to the service of God; the Parish received the intention of nine young people who will make their Confirmation Vows in 1980, the Church's 1 -15th Anniver- sary. Those making the inten- tion for Confirmation in 12 months' time were Fay Eliza- beth Carnochan, Patricia Anne Coleman, Glenda Ged- des, Cheryl June Haney, Ivy Lynne Harrison, Laurie Anna Mcl ntosh, Barry Rapier Moore. Pauline Wallace„ and Sylvia; Ariel Weed. Their prayer of 1111.0 ton< for Conflrmatton was made ;before the congregation and, *prayer for their successfully study was offered by the Clerk of the Session, James Montgomery. After the Ser- vice the congregation en- joyed a fellowship hour with coffee, tea, and cool drinks provided by the ladies of the Church. Memoribilia from the past were on display. Qn: Sunday 24, June an outdoor Service was; held at the original'site of the first. Egmondville Congregation. An enthusiastic crowd atten- ded, in spite of a rather unseasonable cool wind. Old hymns were sung, and the congregation was encour- aged to remember their past, and to remember that at some time in the future they, too, would, be looked upon as Pioneers in the Faith of Christ, Attention was• ',hrgaght 'to the site of four :elefi$1! Who are buried in lE tnondx lie Cemetery. Reverend Graham: of Scotland* the first ordain- ed minister 'is buried here as is Reverend Needham,, The grave of Reverend T. James Elford, who died in Egmond- ville after many faithful' years of service to the Church, • is Also in the community. Rever- end Elford, the father of Miss Florence and, Miss Alva Elford, lived in Egmondville from 1935 until his death. in 1952. During his retirement yearshere he served Egmon, dville Church in a myriad of ffunetions- His brother, the Reverend Herbert, C, Elford,. brother of the Misses Elford, is also buried in 'Egmondville Reverend Herbert Elford ser- ved assupply minister for the six years he lived in this area during his retirement. After the church service, the :congregation retreated to the warmth of the present Church for the annual, con - B regational icnie this year, p taking the form of an indoor l3O t -luck dinner. Following the fellowship of the meal ,games were played ,by,every- one including the minister, who failed to win at anything, But those who did win are: Running races -2 years and under: Carrie McLlwain: and Lori Montgomery; 3-5 years Sheri McLachlan and, Mic- hael Watt; 0-8 (girls): Jenni� fer Watt and boys out McLlwain; 911: Glen ROC; 12-15: Stoney Gauthier. ;Ladies ,Duck Race: Donna Montgomery, Lois Moore' Men's Duck Race: Bill Price; Boys Back to Back Race -band under; Paul & Kevin Me- Llwain. For the adult games, Bill Price and Ken Moore's teams seemed to tie a great deal, leading one to wonder about the efficiency of the judging! _r• Barb Watt seemed to be the "Egmondville lady who isl best able to throw a paper plate the farthest.
