John Templeman presided at the June meeting of the Marion Ritchie Eve- ning, Auxiliary held in the church basement on Tuesday June 12 at 8:30 p.m. opening with the poem,. "What Have you given away?" Hymn 579 was sung fol- lowed by the scripture read- ing Matthew 18, verses 19-29 read by Mrs. Frank Hamilton and prayer. Mrs. Norman Harburn gave . a reading entitled "All. about Herbie." Mrs. Duncan Scott presided for business when it wasdecided to entertain at the Ritz Villa later this year, Mrs.. Robert Laing .played; a number of old favourites on the accordian. Elevenmem- bers answered the roll call with a verse on 'Patience. Mrs. Alec Miller gave the study book on China discuss; ing, the Human Dimension: 1 - changes;' 2 - self reliance; 3 - religion and- 4 ..future. Mrs. Robert Laing conducted, a quizon birds and Mrs. Templeman read a poems "So Long as there are ;Homes." The meeting closed with, Hymn 571 followed' by the Lord's Prayer in unison. Meanwhile, anyone with St. Columban news can call the paper directly and we'll Perth votes At 'the Junemeeting of Perth County Concil, council- lors voted against a proposal which would see them -meet with Stratford city council to discuss the future of •the Ftyfogel 'Inn, • - The inn; situated on 'High- ways 7 and 8 between New Hamburg and Shakespeare, is jointly -owned by the city and the county which has appointed 'a• historical board made up of members from. both,' councils; along with members of the public, Ellice Reeve George Wicke 'county council's representa- tive to the board told the. council that there ' Was no reason to meet again with the citybecause the last time. nothing was accomplished. The city council recently voted to ' renege onthe agreement with county coun- cil to share the cost of restoring the aging building. They opposed the existing plan which would liavean addition b'uilt' onto the inn which would house kitchen facilities and part of the, museum. Downie Reeve Wilfred Tu- er said he thought that members of the county coun- cil should meet with the city so that the present problems can be worked out.• "We just can't abandon the entire project," he said. Tucr claimed that the city was not ready to make all the restorations that the board' hadsuggested but that some sort of a compromise could be worked out. 'city Council' on . the •historical board. "They've kicked the feet right out from under the historical board members," he said. The cost -of restoring the inn is now 5500,000 with additional grants from the ' provincial government cover ing the majority of the costs- Reeve' Wicke told council that these grants niay' soon be lost if work doesn't begin' and the, historical board would then have to reapply for a grant.
