Seaforth council: has, approved ' two:
separate zoning- bylaw changes that could:
allow a new 9000 square foot food outlet and
a four bay car wash to be built in town..
Both changes, reviewed: ' and
recommended by the town's planning board,
were passed at a special; council meeting
Thursday night. •
' The first will rezone the Goderich St W.

residence and the former McLaughlin

commercial to community commercial,
which; allows retail. outlets. •
85 property owners within 400 feet of the
land, will get notice of the zoning change and
have 21 days to object to the OMB. Owners
have to supply reasons for objecting and the
OMB could: hold a hearing; on the change:
The Second zoning bylaw changes the Les
Seiler property, south of the former Fina
Station on .S., Main St; from community
commercial, back to highway commercial,.

ire department's pump in a recent incident
a Joh St. home at the Seaforth Fire Area
oard (FAB) -meeting'. Tuesday,
'On April 13. the Seaforth fire department
as called to the home of Gerad Meidinger,:
n. John Street where a fire was .burning
auscd by water backedup in the• basement
near the homes fur,'nance.
On Saturday, April 14, Jocr•Gibson, Hullett
ownship representative on the FAB ' called
Mr. Hak at his home to register a complaint
about the pump and pumper truck being
used to remove • waterfrom a flooded
basement.
Members of both the Tuckersmith and
McKillop Township councils had heard. that
the pump had been used to, pump ,"raw
sewage"' out of the basement which fire . ,
chief Hak said is ''physically impossible"
with the fire department equipment.
The fire chief said the pumper truck can
"only be used .m the removal of surface water,
Whoa Mr, Hak Was cross-examined by
township FAB members about his decision
to
take out the .pumper truck, the chief •
explained he had tried to contact FAB
chairman Irwin Johnston before making his
decision. Mr. Johnston, was out of- two at
'the time of the' ire and couldn't be 'reached.
Mr. Hak saidhe considered there was, a
tire :hazard at the Joht Street ;home ; and
made the decision to take':
