Sei fortW.s Dumpet4 Aside front skiing, one Of the 'fastest growing winter Sports in Canada seems tet be :broomball, And,,, because Seaforth is in such a winter -dominated climate, :itis only String that we produce ,a team which excells in the sport, Such a team is the Dumpers. Winners, in the Seafecth league, the Dumpers went on to win at the' Ontario Broomball, Association's Central Western Ontario. tournament, held inClifford recently. The Seaforth team won all five of its • games in Clifford to place first in the tournament,. This allowed them to(advance to the Ontario tournament in Sarnia one week later along with the top team from the other five regions in the province. In; theDumper's first game in Sarnia. the score was tied at zero at the end of regulation time. The game went into a, five. minute overtime period; during which the team from the 'East region managed' to score four goals against Seaforth. But the Pumper's weren't out yet. The tournament was Set up in a double knock -out fashion, which, meant a team had to lose twice to be eliminated. in a de -or -die situation, the Pumpers came through with a 3.0 victory over, the South. West region's. team, The, Seaforth team's third and final game was once again tied at the end, this time by a score of 1-1. This led to, :a sudden death. overtime in which the Dumpers lost. The Dumpers, came in fourth. in Sarnia, which• means they are ranked fourth in all. of Ontario. Last year they placed fifth in the province. EElgin. Dearing has been coach of the team for the last three years Beforethat he coached the Junior Farmer's` team lot two season:. ,when: it was just getting;; organized, At the beginning of the X;976-77 season, Elgin -and several of the ,Innior Farmers players decided to lease the team and form their own. • When this new team failed t* Make it into the Seaforth league. they decided to join the Dumpers, then the :B B.E. Dumpers, Elgin became coach, and they fgrme4 What " he considered a: '.'pretty decent team." Aside from the coach, the team consists of seventeen players and manager Danny. Murray. Most of the players are from Seaforth or the immediate area, although some come from as far away as Bluevale• The team had a record last year -about the. same as the Montreal Canadians." But. they haven't been witheuti eompetition. The Bamberg tearn from St. Clements gave them a lot of troubte, with each team winning some of the games played between em. It was also Bamberg that the Dumpers had to beat twice towin the tournament in Cliffprd. Elgin doesn't really know fiat next year's team will; be like, although many of the current players will probably return. He was expressing the feelings of the team as well when he said that he hopes that next year more people will try out for a place with .the Dumpers. as this increases "competition; and makes for a better team. Elgin feels that: some luck is involved. in winning, though`"you have to earn your duck.- Mainly. it's, just a team effort and "plain Bald hard work" that has: made Seaforth's Dumpers as successful' as they were this season: S m e e tsH e nsa The Carmel Presbyterian Chtirch W.M.S. met on Monday evening with 'the President Mrs. Harvey Hydge presiding and opened the meeting with two poems "showers" and ' "Tis Sring Mrs. Jean Snell p was in_inhar8e of the: Worship assisted. by Mrs. Pere Campbell,Mrs, Snell opened the ' worship with .a meditation - on ''Spring" and "prayer>''` The`Synodical will be held in Knox Presbyterian Church Goderich on .Tuesday April 10th and Wednesday April Lith' to which members will SHIPPER •to UNITED CO-OPERATIVES OF ONTARIO LIVESTOCK DEPARTMENT TORONTO Ship yo.ur estock wii:hliv MIKE DOYLE Titcsdai is Shipping Da%_ Frani Dublin CALL DUBLIN 345.2656 , ZURICH 236-4088 be attending The .
