Seaforth Co-op, Nursery,: now officially

The nursery, which; operates in the
17a ennent of the Seaforth Public library, is -----
u: non• Srokit organization of parents who
banded; together for the purpose of setting
up anct.operating* nursery school for :their
children,
Right now,. 53 children, front Seaforth
and area are enrolled in the nursery, senna
attending only ,one morning session g week
and others- .coming to Blass AS Many .5 .
three times a Week.
The co-operative venture Wasn't tou.nded,
to offer a day care service for working,
parents, Instead; as Joanneholland, the
nursery supervisor pointed out, the school
was organized to provide ,children with
social play. • a chance to learn how to
socialize with ,others so the chiddren cavi,
settle in more quickly When they start

says, '''the purpose of a nursey school is to
provide a transition froar,'i the home tti the
structural school. It introduces children to

The eo-op nursery is still a fairly recent
arrival nh the scene. first opening its doors,
in October. 1977. Any; child between the
ages 0! two and a half years and five years
,of age: who is toilet trained. sari he
,enrolled at the school.
Joantie Holland said because ttte nursery
is E c a.operative venture. with parents
supplying part of the labour, the sehtiol. eatz
keep its prices down so' the • service is
available to everyone.
• Mrs. Holland is the only 'nursery
employee, but two volunteers, usually
Mothers of the pupils,' assisther at each
session' ,of the school. The most children
the'nurserv` is allowed; to have at each twu
and a half session is 15 children at a time.

crafts and playtimes at the nursery are
built around weekly themes. This week, for
sample. the children• are learning to
roc ignite different shapes, Next week, the
,program will be built around- colors.
The one structured learning period each,
day is the half htttr.circle period' when, the
children have show,and tell, sing songs,
play games relating to the week's theme or
listen to stories. The rest of the session is
free play for the children but Mrs, Holland.
said; the children are learning a number taf

Also, the school. offers children the•
chance to team to get; along with others
their own age, as well as with adults who,
aren't parents.

The parents also: raise the mote to buy
equipment for the nursery through a
variety of fundraising activities. This year,
the nursery ' executive is eonsidcring
holding a spring auction to raisin more
funds.
