A foundation for a new house at the corner
of James and Ann Streets, Seaforth,
installed by Leo Medd, was demolished by
new owner of the property, David Cobb of
Toronto. Mr. Cobb plans to repair the
present house on the lot and has applied for
a heritage designation.
About 1,000 people packed the Seaforth
and District Community Centres at the Lions
first Oktoberfest. Queen of Oktoberfest is
Usa Beuttenmiller.
At least 3,000 people attended the Van
Egmond Foundation's ninth annual Cider -
fest.

Dog and cat turnout for the free
anti -rabies vaccination clinic in Seaforth was
almost double from two years ago with 303
dogs and 374 cats. The total for Huron
County was also higher, from 4,952 to 7,716.
Long time Brussels recreation committee
chairman, Wayne Lowe, has resigned. He
received a 5300 per year honorarium.
A chimney fire at the home of Hans Von
Euw, Tuckersmith, caused about 55,000
damage. It took Seaforth firefighters about
11/2 hours to put out the blaze.
Lavina Wheatley of Seaforth is still
enjoying the odd bowl of fresh raspberries.
They're not quite as sweet. but are still
delicious she says.

Seven Brussels residents re homeless
after fire gutted the Olympia R staurant and
Turnberry Upholstery in down wn Brus-
sels. Firemen from four depa ents were
on the scene for 11 hours Damage is
estimated at 5150,000. Cats a has not been
determined.
A public meeting will be held in Seaforth
to make an amendment to the zoning bylaw.
The change would allow construction on
narrow commercial lots. The bylaw now
requires a 60 foot lot frontage. Sono
properties meet all other requirements, but
are six inches too narrow.
The Ontario Municipal Board has dismiss.
ed appeals by David and Christine Tremeer
and Richard Burgess, of a minor variance
granted to Leo Medd. The minor variance
allows a 15 foot side yard instead of Ile
required 25 feet in the construction of
one-story bungalow.

As of Nov. 1, all children under the age of
five must use a seatbelt or a restraining car
seat in a motor vehicle. "I think the new law
is a good idea," says police chief Hal Claus.
