Short Shots by Evelyn Kennedy
This is the Christmas season. The time
that should be filled with "Good will toward
Men" and "Peace on Earth". Though we
await the day that celebrates the birth of the
"Prince of Peace" there is little peace or
goodwill toward man in our world. War and
rumours of war are widespread. Controversy
abounds between countries. Members of
governments, who face each other across the
floor. wrangle and quibble endlessly at-
tempting to discredit others or enhance their
own image. Instead they should be devoting
their time and energy in an effort to resolve
the problems that affect the people that
elected them and to whom they are
accountable. Even many families are torn
apart and have troubles and problems to
adjusting. One cannot help wondering what
happiness Christmas can bang them. If only
the joy of the observance of the birth of the
"Babe of Bethlehem" could spread through-
out the world and bring about the "Peace
and goodwill to man" that is so much
needed.
If you are a lady stranded on the highway
with car trouble, dressed in clothes that hide
your figure, and having trouble stopping
someone to help, you might try what one
lady did. She held up a large lettered notice
that said "Help I'm a girl." The first man
who passed by stopped and came to her
rescue.
We motorists have better be very careful
of our driving habits. Motorist who run a red

belt will face fines that have been increased
100 percent from former levels. This has
been done to get drivers to cut down on
traffic offences that cause accidents. The
fines do not include court costs. They are
added to the fines.

In watching the recent Grey Cup Parade
telecast this Interesting remark was heard
when some of the "important" persons in
the guests enclosure were interviewed. Glen
Yarborough, a wealthy American, who is
quite a sports enthusiast, was asked if he
was enjoying the Grey Cup activities? His
reply was 'Very mucli and I am looking
forward to the game with eager expectation
for, he said• "Canadian football i{ much
more exciting than American football." He
could not have been disappointed by what he
saw on the football field the next day. His
remark was good to hear after having
hearing Canadian football laughed at by
Americans and the criticism of it by some
American imports.
