' The ladies of Carmel Presbyterian Church
met on Monday, Dec. 5 for a pot -lack dinner
at 12 noon with Mrs. Alex McGregor and
Mrs. Al Hoggarth in charge.
Dorothy Taylor presided for the W.M.S.
meeting andave the origin of the'hymn
"Silent t" written by Franz Gruber.
Mrs. Faber read an article "What Makes
(2trishnast", Mrs. Cathy Bell read a story
"The Rest of the Story", Gloria Mousseau
gave *reading "Christmas Givingg and Jean
Snell gave areading "Ready for as".
A vocal duet "Hear the Bells" was sung by
Blanche Dougall and Edith Bell with Dorothy
Taylor at the piano.
It was decided to supplyamalgamat
organizations and be known as the Presbyter-
ian Church Women. The next meeting to be
held on Jan. 9, 1984 at 2 p.m.
Mrs. Douse! and Mrs. Bell sang a duet
"Behold I Bring Good Tidings" and Mrs.
Taylor gave a reading "It Was Christtaas Eve
In Palestine."
Mrs. Kenneth Knight installed the slate of
officers for the coming year. They are

UNIT THREE ENJOYS DINNER
Unit Three of the Hensall U.C.W. enjoyed
a hot Christmas dinner at 12 noon on Tuesday
in the Fellowship Hall with a good attend-
ance.
Dorothy Brintnell opened the meeting with
a poem "Now Is The Time For Christmas."
Christmas greetings were read from Mary
Nicol, missionary in Nepal, Asia and from
Peter and Suan Frayne who are working in
Sendah, West Africa.'
Jean Cole and Shirley Kerslake sang
"Silver Bells" and "Let There Be Light
accompanied by Marilyn Vandenbusche at

United Church Women on Dec: S, Gall

on the work of the
Roth Home of M Services, Mainly
working amongyouth, battered wives,
alcoholics and ormer psychiatric patients,
workers see an, average of 250 to 500 women
pass through their doors in a year. Christmas
is a apecld time at Roth Home; u well as
g the traditional Christmas dinner,
residents are given �g� provided by the
generosity of well wishhrs.
The annual Presbyterial will be held at St.
John's United Church, Stratford, on Jan. 23
and the Hensall U.C.W. meeting will be on
Jan. 16. It was decided to hold another beef
barbeque in 1984, carpet the gallery of the
church, to bay two new flower standards for
the sanctuary and a new vacuum cleaner.

The annual Bendix Christmas Pa was
held at the Pineridge Chalet on 'day

1:30 p.m. conducted by Rev. Ken eth

The Kiri Session will meet on Wednes ay
evening at 8:00 p.m. The annual joint c• of
service will be held on Sunday, Dec. 18, at
7:30 p.m. There will be a Christmas : e
Service at 7:30 p.m. in place of the 1:30 p.
service on Dec. 25.
SANTA VISITS
The children of the Hensall United Chur
were entertained on Thursday evening an
began the evening by decorating the hall an
Christmas tree with decorations they ha
made.
The movie "The Gift" portrayed the sto
of a lad who had no money to buy his father a
gift, so he got up early on Christmas and took
care of all the chores for his father. His father
thanked him and said it was the first time he
was with the children to see them around the
tree early in the morning.
Santa arrived and gave about 80 children a
bag of goodies.
The -United Church service on Sunday
morning opened with the choir singing the
anthem "Ring Out Bells of Christmas ' by
McCabe with Doug Klopp as organist and
director for the day. The ushers for the day
were Fred Elder, Larry Elder, Doug Kyle and
Steven Corbett and Sharon Wurm greeted
the congregation. The congregation enjoyed
a carol sing at the beginning of the service.
The United Church Women officers were
installed for the 1983-84 year by Mr.
McDonald. They are president Joyce Pepper,
"secondvice president Belva Fuss, secretary
Grace Drummond, treasurer and past presi-
dent Hilda Payne. The chairpersons for the
different divisions are church in society,
Audrey Christie; Christian development Kay
Elder; in church, Dianne Gerstenkorn; World
Outreach, Kay Mock; leadership develop-
ment, Dianne Gerstenkorn; communications,
Hilda Payne; stewardship, Mary Goodwin;
the leaders of the different Units forrite next
year are: Unit one, Audrey Christie, Unit
Two, Kay Mock, Unit three, Dorothy Parker,
Unit four, Nan Britton.
Next Sunday evening,the carolers will go
out through the village singing carols to some
of the shut -its. Anyone wbbing to join them
and share in the singing are asked to be at the
church at 7:00 p.m.
QUEENSWAY NEWS
Dec. 1 started out with the Legion and
Ladies Auxiliary members coming in the
evening for a sing -song and cake and ice
cream for the residents.
St. Boniface Christmas Choirentertained
residents and staff on duty Dec. 5. Tuesday
was worship service conducted by Rev.
Forsythe assisted by Robert Cameron and
Rev, Grant Mills- Movies were shown on
Thursday.
Bowling was enjoyed at the Zurich Bowling
Lanes on Friday with Albert Miazga high for
the men with 134 and Stephanie Bosse high
for the ladies 142,
Sunday, Dec. 11 was the Family Christmas
Party. George Mathonia, Jim Young and Jim
Norris and another group Terry Sweigard,
Eugene Hartman and Marg Hartman (who
are some members of Country Unlimited)
entertained the residents and staff to some
delightful music.

usual ur of 10 a.m. on Sunday Dec. 11 and

young eople of the church with Christine
Cooper the minister in charge.
The ung people presented four stories,
namely 'The Advent Apple" read by Lois
Binnend k, assisted by Dana Cooper; "The
Selfish amity" read by Chrystal Jones,
assisted y Julie Consitt, Darrell Faber and
Jason Tu er; "The Gift Tree" read by Linda
Binnend , assisted by Myla Lovell and
Chrystal nes; and "The Free Gift" read by
Myla Lovell, assisted by Jason Turner and
Darrell Faber.
The choir sang Calypso Carol" accom-
panied by Tricia Cooper on the finger cymbal,
Linda Binnendyk on the maracas, and Lois
Binnendyk on the clavas. Barb Cooper
presided at the organ assisted by Pastor Don
Moffat at the piano.
Michael Connolly is a patient in Exeter
Hospital after suffering a fall in his home; we
wish him a speedy recovery.
It's exam time for the university and
college students in our area. We wish them
all the best on their exams and a safe journey
home to Kippen for the Christmas holidays.

Taylor were in charge of the worship service
on Christmas. Mrs. Doris Cantelon was at
the piano. Beatrice Stoll. president, read a
poem "Gifts for Christmas".
Donations were made to the Children's
Memorial Hospital, to the Van Den Neucker
family and to the Mission and Service fund.
After the meeting, boxes were_packed for
the shut-ins. The Christmas eve service this
year will be at Brucefield at 7:30 p.m.

Sympathy is expressed to Mrs. Edna
Paterson in the death of her son Jim of
Loudon and to his wife and daughter.
Mrs. Ruth Rushcall has returned to
Victoria, B.C. after spending a couple of
weeks with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Ross
Scott.
David Triebner is a patient in University
Hospital. London having undergone hip

Pupils and teachers are now busy with the
preparations for the Christmas Program set
for Dec. 14 at 8 p.m. Three choirs, the
primary, junior and the senior choir along
with several individuals, groups and the
kindergarten class will present a variety
program designed to reflect the real mean-
ing of Christmas.

THE CHRISTMAS TREE
On Tuesday December 6, kindergartens
and grades one from our school went on a
field trip to get a Christmas tree to decorate in
our gym After that they had a sleigh ride led
by Mr. Millson's team of horses. it was a very
enjoyable dams STMAS DANCE
We had a Christmas dance on Thursday.
December 8. it was held after school from
3:30-5:30. The grades that went were only
grades 7 & 8. Pop and chips were sold for only
50c. Everyone had fun.

poem "Gifts for Christmas".
Donations were made to the Children's
Memorial Hospital, to the Van Den Neucker
family and to the Mission and Service fund.
After the meeting, boxes were_packed for
the shut-ins. The Christmas eve service this
year will be at Brucefield at 7:30 p.m.

Sympathy is expressed to Mrs. Edna
Paterson in the death of her son Jim of
Loudon and to his wife and daughter.
Mrs. Ruth Rushcall has returned to
Victoria, B.C. after spending a couple of
weeks with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Ross
Scott.
David Triebner is a patient in University
Hospital. London having undergone hip
su rgery.

Pupils and teachers are now busy with the
preparations for the Christmas Program set
for Dec. 14 at 8 p.m. Three choirs, the
primary, junior and the senior choir along
with several individuals, groups and the
kindergarten class will present a variety
program designed to reflect the real mean-
ing of Christmas.

THE CHRISTMAS TREE
On Tuesday December 6, kindergartens
and grades one from our school went on a
field trip to get a Christmas tree to decorate in
our gym After that they had a sleigh ride led
by Mr. Millson's team of horses. it was a very
enjoyable dams STMAS DANCE
We had a Christmas dance on Thursday.
December 8. it was held after school from
3:30-5:30. The grades that went were only
grades 7 & 8. Pop and chips were sold for only
50c. Everyone had fun.
