Brussels Bulls win one, lose two games
On Sunday the league leading Grand
Valley Harvesters came from behind to edge
the Brussels Bulls 5-3 in a hard fought game.
After a slow start in which Grand Valley
swarmed the Brussels end for the first five
minutes of the game, the Bulls finally got
untracked. Trailing 1 - 0 because of excellent
goaltending of Steve Milardovic, the Bulls
took control of the play to take the lead 2-1
before the end of the period. Goals were
scored by Kevin Wheeler and Robbie Cardiff.
In the second period the Bulls controlled
the game early in the period but penalties
tamed the momentum in Grand Valley's
favour. Kevin Dietner scored a shorthanded
goal as he outskated a Grand Valley defender
to the puck and beat their goalie with a
blistering slapshot. However the Bulls'
defense coughed the puck up in their own end
with less than two minutes of play in the
period to allow Grand Valley to narrow the
lead to one goal.
In the third period Grand Valley took
control of the game, outshooting the Bulls
19-11. They scored three unanswered goals,
two of them on power plays to clinch the
victory. During the game Grand Valley
outshoi Brussels 47 - 33.
Although it was an evenly matched game
the play became rather chippy at times and it
appeared as if referee R. Richards was going
to lose control of the game as he missed
several flagrant offensesby both teams in the
second period. In the third period he was then
forced to make many questionable penalty
calls which distracted greatly from the
' players' efforts.
This week the Bulls play in Markdale on
Friday and ifost Howick 'on Sunday.
DEFEAT ARTHUR
On Friday the Brussels Bulls defeated the
2nd place Arthur Eagles 9-5 in Arthur. The
game was 'a fast skating with many scoring
opportunities by both teams.
In the first period the defense seem to be
the farthest thing from both teams' minds as
seven goals were scored. Kevin Mc • •er and

Jeff Buchanan and Brian Ten Pas were the
goal scorers. Arthur then attempted a
comeback by scoring two goals but Kevin
McArter with his fourth goal of the game iced
the victory for the Bulls.
HOWICK WINS
On Wednesday. the Bulls travelled to
Howick and played their worst game of the
year. It appeared as if the Bulls were only out
for a skate rather than to play a hockey game.
Howick jumped into at; early 2 - 0 teid but
Brussels tied the score as Don Wilson scored
two shorthanded goals.
in the second period the teams traded goals
with Ron Bowman scoring for Brussels.
Todd Wheeler gave Brussels the lead early
in the third period but from that paint on the
game was completely controlled by Howick as
they scored four straight goals to earn a 7-4
'victory.
Even though the Bulls were short six
starters because of injuries and school
commitments, their lacklustre effort was
disappointing. A wholehearted effort by the
players there might have been enough to win
the game.
Novice doing
On Nov. 25, the Seaforth Novice team
travelled . to Milverton and defeated them
2-0. The first two periods were scoreless and
first goal came in the third period at 12:46
with Scott Jervis driving one home and Mike
Devereaux assisted;
The second goal was scored on an empty
net by Mike Watt unassisted. All the boys
played well and were a joy to watch.
On Nov. 26, Seaforth travelled to Mitchell
and trounced the Mitchell team 9-0. They
played a hard driving game and the defense
and ouyst, per goalie kept Mitchell scoreless.
Pee ,Wees lose

The Seaforth team skated hard and

well.

1984 FARM TAX
REDUCTION PROGRAM
GET BACK MORE IN '84!
The Ontario Farm Tax Reduction Program, designed to
assist owners of farm properties by rebating a portion of their
property taxes, has been greatly improved for 1984.
As in past years, residences. farmland and outbuildings
will continue to be assessed together. But the farm tax rebate
will increase from 50 to 60%.
And while the gross production value for eligibility will
remain at $8,000 for the majority of the province, it will be
reduced to $5,000 for northern and eastern Ontario (northern
Ontario is defined as that area north of the southern boundaries
of Haliburton and Muskoka. And eastern Ontario is the ar
east of the western boundary of Northumberland, Victoria and -
Peterborough counties).
To hear more about these and the many additional pro-
gram improvements, contact your local Ontario Ministry of
Agriculture and Food Office.
Application forms for the 1984 Farm Tax Reduction
Program will be mailed during the sur mer of 1984, and will
be accompanied by a trrochure outlining the new program in
more detail.
