Extra operators for holiday
Canadians, are expected to place about
6,000,000 !Ong distance phone calls to
relatives and friends around the -world on
Christmas Day, all but half a million of them
by direct dialing.
In Ontario, Bell Canada expects'Christmas
Day to have the heaviest volume of calls
during the Yuletide period, closely followed
by Christmas Eve. The other busy days will
be Boxing Day, December 26, New Year's
Eve, New Year's Day and the two Sundays
preceeding Christmas.
In Clinton, extra operators will be on duty
over the holiday period to handle o erator-
assisted long distance calls, Peter Croome,
Bell Manager in this area, said -
Most ,calls will be dialed direct by
customers -- the cheapest and fastest way to
call long distance.
Mr. Croome warned that circuits may
become overloaded at busy times because of
the heavy volume of calls. If there is no dial
tone or a busy signal, the caller should try
later. Peak periods to avoid are 10 a.m. to
noon and 2 to 4 p.m, on weekdays and early
afternoon and early evening on holidays and
weekends.
• Bell advises the heaviest volume of
overseas calls is to the United Kingdom.
Italy, Greece, Germany, Portugal, Prance
and Yugoslavia. Callers should remember
the time difference between Canada and the
overseas country. It may mean the difference
between an answered and an unanswered
call.
Holiday calling can be smoother by
planning ahead. Get numbers in advance.
Directory Assistance for numbers in North
•America is available by dialing"1", the area
code if required, plus 55$-12. Overseas
numbers can be obtainedfcom Bell operators
now and kept handy for the actual call. Calls
cannot be booked ahead of time.
Sunday discount rates also apply each year
on two other dates; December 25 and January
1. Because these holiday dates fall on Sunday
during the coming Yuletide Season, the
Sunday discount rates will also apply on
THE HURON EXPOSITOR, DECEMBER 7, 1983
December 26 and January 2.
Long distance gift certificates, in sets of
four S6 certificates, are available with an
attractive card and envelope, redeemable
only in Canada. They can also be used for
pa ng a telephone bill.
ere are four easy ways to buy certifi-
cates: call toll-free 1.800.268-9191; visit the
nearest Bell Phonecentre, call the local Bell
Business Office or visit the local Bell Public
Office. For the first three methods, Visa or
Mastercard will be accepted.
Workshop on change, Stratford
Moving into the work force after living on

but there is a place to turn to for help.
The Stratford campus of Conestoga Col-

will take place at the Stratford campus. As
well, information about the course will be
available on that day.
The program was originally designed to
provide life skills training to help single
parents obtain a job, but has.been expanded
to include the spouses of those on disability
pensions.

HURONVIEW,- Sunday worship was held
in the Huronview .chapel with Reverend
Pick conducting the service. There was a
good attendance. -
Special Care folks met in the activity
room for a social hour. The listened to music
played from the stereo. Tea and cookies
were served.
A group of musicians from Goderich were
down to entertain the residents and that
they did. These talented people, Audrey
Kerr, Laurine Madge, Gordon Harrison,
Tony Hyde, Bill and Ebb Ross, presented a

splendid program of songs and in-
strumentals. We hope they will .come back
soon again. Our residents enjoyed them
very much.
Van rides were available on Nov. 23 and
some folk took advantage of the outing.
EdStiles was at Huronview on Nov. 24 and
presented a program of organ music.
Welcomed back to Huronview is Edith
Logan of Blyth. She celebrated her 100th bir-
thday recently and is a remarkable lady.
To the families of the late Hazel Young,
Janet Finlay and Bill Marsh, we extend our
sincere sympathy. These residents of
Huronview died recently.
