LITTLE SANTA?—When seven-month old
Melissa Grisdale of Cranbrook tried on her
new snow suit, a neighbour commented that
it looked like a Santa outfit. Melissa's
mother Ruth-ann made a few adjustments to
the suit, added some white trim, white boots
and mittens, the result, a miniature Santa
suit. Shown with the tiny Santa is sister
Carrie. The girls are daughters of Mr. and
Mrs_ Earl Grisdale. (Wassink photo)

Winter arrived with gusty blasts. a bit
earlier than expected. and seems determined
to remain with us. A comparatively mild
winter. as we had last year; appears too much
to expect this time around. An old English
proverb tells us "God gave usmemory so that
we might have roses in December.' So. take
• a trip down memory's lane this December
and recall the beautiful sunny warm summer
we enjoyed. those long evenings on the lawn
with Rowers blooming. birds singing. back-

the stormy winds of winter howl around our
homes and the high piled white drifts shut us
in. stroll down memory lane and have roses in

When one lives alone and at times arc
incapable of doing things that have to be
done. good neighbours who come to their aid
are very much appreciated. When cold.

driveway keeps one ihdoors. neighbours who
see that you get your mail: that your driveway
is cleared of obstruction are indeed. a
blessing. So are those people who brave bad
weather. dangerous driving conditions. plod

deliver the necessities of life to those who are
not able to venture out under such conditions.
Give credit also to the boys and girls who.
despite rain. sleet and snow see to it that you
get your daily newspaper. Good neighbours
they arc all. To everyone one of them goes
sincere gratitude for their helpfulness.
The passing of laws does not always
accomplish exactly what the law makers
intended. There arc always people with
devious minds and methods. who will twist
and manipulate them to suit their own
purpose. A prime example of this is what is
being done with the Charter of Rights and
Freedom. Criminals start screaming that
their rights are being abused. Unscrupulous
lawyers plead their case using the Charter of
Rights and Freedom with distortion. Obvious
criminals go free and lawyer and client laugh
in the face of justice. Some changes are
needed in that Charter so that its content
could not be so mutilated by manipulation
and would do what it was meant to do —
protect the true rights and freedom of
Canadians.

The past weekend was a normal quiet one
in this home. A contrast from the previous
weekend when my elder granddaughter, her
baby son and three-year-old daughter were
with me. The baby was almost too good to be
believed. He fussed only when hungry. When
satisfied he quickly shut his eys. went to
sleep without a whimper and slept for hours.
That after a long car ride. being in strange
surroundings, and with a bit of a cold seemed
remarkable. When awake he was bright and
alert for his age and submitted without a.__
