Moyo gets five years
probation for charge
Doctor Charles T. Moyo, a Seaford' deportation and suspension of his licence to
doctor from 1967 to 1980, was sentenced last practise medicine in the state.
week in New York supreme court to five . Police said the doctor tried to arrange the
years probation for second-degree criminal
solicitation in trying to hire a "hit man" to
murder his estranged wife. Lorraine Roth.
He was also ordered to perform an
unspecified amount of community service.
Dr. Moyo, 52, was convicted of the felony
count by Judge Julius Hellenbrand in June
after a two day trial. He was acquitted of the
second charge of conspiracy to commit
murder, which requires more than one
person in the planning of the killing.
Because Dr. Moyo's estranged wife told
the court she had "no malice" toward him
and that she considered a jail sentence
inappropriate, Dr. Moyo was not given the
maximum penalty of seven years in a state
penitentiary for the solicitation charge. A
native of Zimbabwe, he could also face
slaying of his wife in an attempt to get sole
ownership of the couple's S100,000 farm
near Seaforth. The farm in Tuckersmith.
Township will be sold by judicial sale Dec.
• 16.
An undercover police officer said Dr.
Moyo was arrested after he asked him to find
a hit man to kill his wife. Police were acting
on a tip from the state health department's
narcotics unit which was investigating Dr.
Moyo's practice at Greenpoint Hospital in
Brooklyn.
Before moving to New York Dr. Moyo was
charged and acquitted of six counts of
prescribing controlled stimulants and other
drugs to an undercover OPP officer who
posed as a patient at his Seaforth clinic in
1980. Dr. Moyo left Canada.
