Frayne acclaim
-as Board chairman
' The new chairman of the Huron County
Board of Education intends to carry on the
open lines of communication between the
board and the public,
Eugene Frayne, 53, of RR3 Goderich was
acclattned to the position of board chairman
at the inaugural meeting.
"My,aim hairman of the Huron County
Board of Education is to develop the boards
role and image," said Mr. Frayne a stand
taken by past chairman Dorothy Wallace of
Goderich.
He told members of Huron County council
attending the meeting that neither the
inaugural or the annual budget meetings are
not the "ideal situation to understand what
the Huron County Board of Education
undertakes to do for the students".
Mr. Frayne asked county council to invite
either the director of education Robert Allan
or himself to a county council session to
discuss the problems faced by the board.
"Our forefathers never questioned the,
price of education and neither, should we.
Education is the most important thing we
hand down to our children," he said.
'Retiring Huron County Warden Grant
Stirling suggested that trustees attend their
local municipality's council meetings to keep
councils up to date on the happenings at the
board level.
"We're the first ones 'to heat the
complaints," said Mr. Stirling.
Mr. Frayne is a farmer in Ashfield
Township and represents the separate school
supporters for the north part of the county.
He served on Ashfield Township Council
for five years as a councillor and two years as
a deputy -reeve. Prior to the amalgamation of
local school boards, Mr. Frayne served for six
years as a trustee on the Kingsbridge school
hoard. He has been a member of the Huron
County Board of Education since 1977.
Art Clarke of Wingham was elected
vice-chairman of the board. Having com-
pleted his first year as a trustee, Mr. Clarke
defeated Joan VandenBroeck of Saltford.
Committee chairmen were also named at
the inaugural meeting. Frank Falconer of
RRS Clinton will chair the education commit-
tee, while Dennis Rau of RR2 Zurich heads
the management committee for the coming
year.
John Jewitt of Londesboro is chairman of
the personnel committee for the coming year.

dub, for a few dollars, members could hire a
teacher, he says.
"There are a lot of computers in this town
and learning on your own (tom books can be
confusing if you don't know what you're
doing. The more people who join the club,
the more information we.can exchange and
the more we can learn."
Those who are interested in buying a
computer could benefit from the dub with
help to choose the right computer. "In the
city, selling computers is a hard sell. The
salesmen cut down e.yery other computer but

About seven people, two of them children.
have shown an interest in the club so far.
Anyone interested can call Gary Lawton at
