r• Tile chairman of the Huron -Perth Sept
arate School Board is back at the helm with
b
} mitetiti use of his right hand after both arms
were 'damaged in alarm accident.
• Ronald Murray of RRI Dublin, chaired the
• board's Nov. 14 -meeting, three weeks. after
the accident in which his arms were caught
in a grain auger on his farm for about 40
minutes.,
He was putting a plastic tube on the end of
the grain auger to channel the grain into the
top of the bin when his coat got caught in the
auger. The fact his coat and arms were
caught. in the auger saved his life, said Mr:
Murray, although the pressure of the
111111111,,
machine on his coat formed a tourniquet on
his arm.
"1 was lucky enough that my arm didn't
break," commented Mr. Murray from his
home.
The accident damaged muscle and nerves
in his arm which affects the movement of his
fingers. ,His wife Theresa, a nurse, applies
therapy to his arm every day at home.
The accident happened on Monday, Oct.
24 and Mr. Murray came home the following
Saturday.
His boys are doing the farm work for Mr.
Murray although he said he has done a bit of
plowing since the accident.
The chairman agreed that those 40
minutes were the longest of his life.

I' don't want to be a mechanic but I
want,ta,know all about cars. If a car ever
quits'on me, I'd like to know What todio
about it," she says.
It's important that women learn about
their vehicles because their ignorance can
make them victims, says Jim Floyd.
"When a cabman doesn't know what's
wrong with her car, it's very easy to
charge her extra for an unnecessary
service or part and rip her off. Unfortu-
nately, mechanics who have done that have
given all of us a' bad name. Working at, a
gas station is one way to learn about cars
and guard against being ripped off," he
says.
Other benefits to the job are working
outdoors. being able to do ,homework on
the job when business is slow and meeting
people.
' MEETS PEOPLE
"1 didn't know anyone When 1 first
moved here but this job has really helped
me meet a lot, of people. The regular
customers are great. Lots of times they'll
help out."
But, as the first girl gas pumper in
Seaforth for about 10 years she of course
receives a bit of ribbing.
"llexpected smart remarks, In Oshawa,
there were quite a few girls working at gas
stations but it seems lots of people around
here have never heard;,of it before. In the,
slimmer, some df:this guys said 1 should

motors as ruck as guys ate. If a radiator
heats up. a guy is more likely to tryrand ,
take the cap off," he says.
Larry Dolmage, his partner, also has
reservations about hiring girls because -the
station is open until midnight when girls
ayhotels.mget hassled by patrons of the local
HE'D Epg
"We had three or four gir apply for
jobs last summer but we had'e ough staff
at the time. If we needed someone I'd hire •
a girl if she could do tke job -and didn't
mind getting her hands dirty. The public'
thinks it's great when girls serve them,"
says Mr. Robinet. '
Shanna says she thinks more girls in
town will think- of trying the gas stations
'now that she's been hired at one.
"Because no girls have worked there for
a long time, girls probably haven't even
though of applying," she says:
And, when Shanna finishes grade 13,
and if she is accepted into the physical
fitness instructor program she hopes to
take at Fanshawe College, there could be
an opening at Seaforth Gulf Service.
