After her recent visit to Nepal, Mrs.
Brewster.spoke of the extreme poverty in
rural Nepal. ,The W.I. is supporting
UNESCO Coupon #71` which has, a goal of
suppiying..Clean water for all third world
countries. Members attended from the
counties of Huron, Wellington, Waterloo
and Halton.
On Friday morning, Mrs. Keith Hieplah,
president of F.W.1.O. installed the officers.

resolutin was; kuatained: 'Whereas 'the
distasteful and embarrassing advertise-
ments in the media for persopal care
products are degradlgg to women. therefore
be it resolved that the. Federated Women's.
Institutes of Ontario requeitf the Advertising
Advisory Board to monitor advertising and
set more stringent standards. •
, Mrs. Norman Coshlin, in her president's
address, stressed the fact that education is
an ongoing process, bringing ,the world
closer together. '
Mrs. Hieplah said that W.I. members are
making a quilted wall hanging to celebrate
the bicentennial in 1984 which will be hung
in the Parliament buildings in Toronto. Mrs.
J,ll. Lambert spoke on the institute clean
water prosect towards which the collection
was contributed.
Mrs. Sam Johnston gave a slide presenta-
tion of the A.C.W.W. Convention held at the
'University of British Columbia last June.
Home Economists, Jane Muegge and Nancy
Ross spoke of the importance of the
agriculture industry in Ontario. They told
about the adult courses to be offered: wise
money management, sewing for young
children, and rug braiding. 4-H courses will
be fitness and rug braiding. There will be"
offered a R.S.V.P. #2 seminar in the spring
of 1984. Jeannie Butcher, a representative of
the Jean Scott Junidr Women's institute
gave the junior's report.

about tranquilizers
The Seaforth Women's Institute met,
Tuesday evening Nov. 8 at the home of Mrs.
Dan O'Rourke. Mrs- Ross Gordan chaired
the meeting.
Mrs. E. Kerr carried the wreath at the
cenotaph Armistice Day.
Achievement Days for the 4-H Homemak-
ing Club "Looking Great, Feeling Great"
will be 7 p.m-, Nov. 15 at Central Huron
Sir-nor1gm School in Clinton and Nov. 17 a

Mrs. J. Keys reported on bus trips to
Simcoe on Dec. 7. Mrs. R. Gordon gave a
report on area' convention held in St. Marys
and Mrs. R.J. Doig's report was read.
Christmas will be celebrated at the Erlin
Lee Home on Nov. 30 and Dec- 1.
The A.C.W.W. Conference for 1,986 will
be in Ireland. We will be twinned with New
Brunswick for 'pen pals next year.
Mrs. E. Kerr gave her report on the Fall
District Board meeting at Hensall:
Angela Dawson, a retired registered nurse
on the Board ofDirectors of Stratford Mental
Health Association gave a<•very interesting
and informative talk on "Women and Health
It's just -your, Nerves", dealing with
tranquilizers such as pills and alcohol. Mrs.
O'Rourke and Mrs. Lawson were in charge
of the program.

During the past • week Frank Sills
-attended the Investiture of the Ontario Y
Medal for Firefighters and Police Bravery at
the Parliament Buildings in Toronto. The
medals were presented by the Lieutenant
Governor of Ontario. ,
Edith Logan, the {pother 'of Effie
Stephenson. of Seaforth, celebrated her
100th birthday in Blyth last week. A life-long
resident of the area, Mrs. Logan is in good
health and says if she had 100 years to live
over again. she wouldn't change a thin.
Effie, sons •Donatd and Bill and„, their
families, were among the many people who
attended a reception in her honor at Blyth
' United Church. Her 98 -year-old sister from
Sarnia also attended.
