Cromarty WMS has guests
for 80th anniversary

Guests from Exeter. Mitchell, Hensall:
and Seaforth Presbyterian Churches, and
Thames Road, Hibbert and Thamesview
United Churches as well as Cromarty Marian
Ritchie, joined with Cromarty Women's
Missionary Society bn Thursday afternoon to
help them celebrate their 80th anniversary.
The president, Dorothy Miller, welcomed
everyone and announced the: theme of the
meeting, Give God the Glory. Aileen Knight
gave devotions which concluded with the
signing of • an anniversary prayer hymn
written by Louise Reith . for the looth
anniversary prayer hymn written by 'Louise
Reith for the lOOth anniversary of the W.M.S.
(W.D.) of the Presbyterian Church in
Canada, in 1984.
With Mary F. Dow at the Organ, the guest
soloist was Kay Barris. Muriel Scott read the
History of Cromarty W.M.S. which was
formed on July 7, 1903, with Mrs. Jas. Scott
as president, Mary Currie as vice-president.
Mrs. S.A. Miller secretary, and'Mrs. J.A.
Norris, treasurer. When they organized, they
had five woven in'the grodp but by the end
of the year they had 15. In the 80 years, they
have had only six treasurers. All the present
seven members have life' memberships and
Lila McKaig, Muriel Scott, and Agnes
Lamond have honorary memberships. The
current president is Dorothy Miller, with
Lillian Douglas as secretary, and Lila
'McKaig, treasurer.. •
The offering was received by Betty Dow
and Lillian Douglas, and •was dedicated by
Edna Stoneman. Lillian Douglas introduced
the guest speaker, Ruth Francis. of Fullerton,
who gave impressions of life in New Zealand
where she and her family spent a year on
exchange 'with a Presbyterian minister. In
New Zealand, one-sixth of the population is
listed as Presbyterian. One of the differences
she noted was that the church women did no
catering to raise funds, but they did have
bazaars. Also, they Oidn't see any Church
choirs while they were there.
Courtesy remarks were• made by Mrs.
Lamond. Asocial time was held downstairs
when Mrs. McKaig cut the decorated
birthday cake.

rectory on Tuesday afternoon. •
Correspondence included an invitation to
the St. JamesC.W.L. Seaforth tea and bazaar
on Nov. 26 from 2-4 p.m. at St. James'
School.
A. donation -will- be sent tallies. Catholic
Church Extension Society for home missions.
A card party and potluck supper will be
held on Nov. 23 in the parish hall at 8 p.m.
Everyone welcome. ,
Plans were made for the annual McKillop
Federation of Agriculture dinner Nov. 15 in
the parish hall catered to by the C.W.L.
ladies.
The December meeting will be a Christmas
party starting with a pot luck super at 7 p.m.
with an exchange of gifts. Fifty j ear pins will
also be given out at this. meeting.

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Cronin and Mr. and Mrs.
Ken Ryan attended the funeral of their aunt.
Mrs. Mary (Tiede) Harvey of Kitchener on
' Friday, Nov. 4 and,Mr. andrMrs. Ron Ryan
attended the wake on Thursday evening.
Mr. and 'Mrs. Dave Regier of Kitchener
visited on Sunday afternoon with Mr. and
Mrs. Albert Cronin.
' Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Ryan, Louise and'
Mark visited on Sunday with Mr. and'Mrs.
Jim Subject and family of Kitchener.

At a recent meeting of the South Hibbert,
Athletic Society, it was decided to hold a
Family Dance at the Dublin Community
Centre on Nov. 26.
Staffa Women's Institute held their first
class on the shortcourse rugbraiding on
Wednesday afternoon Nov. 2 at the home of
Mrs. Cartel Kerslake with nine ladies
present. The next meeting will be held at the
home of Mrs. Jack Burchill on Wednesday
Nov. 9.
Many from this community were guests at
the Butson -Campbell wedding on Saturday,
Nov. 5.

Wallace Township Reeve Robert Fother-
ingham will head the Perth County
Municipal Association for the coming year.
Reeve Fotheringham was chosen to head
the association at its 35th annual meeting in
Mitchell on Nov. 2.

The community w saddened this week
with the passing of slie Dolmage, life long
resident of the co munity. Leslie will be
remembered for is love of nature and
outdoors. The community expresses deepest
sympathy to Delphine, Verne, Ken and
family.
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Kismet visited with
relatives, Gordon and Myrtle Hulley, Bob
and Marg Hulley and Mrs. Ella Hulley in
K,ilbarchan Nursing Home, Seaforth.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph McNichol attended the
baptism of their grandson Ryan McNichol,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray McNichol of
Listowel.
The sympathy of the conimunity is
extended to the Storey families in the passing
of Beryl Storey of Kinburn. Beryl was born in
Cromarty and lived in the Kinburn area since
her marriage to Bill Storey. Kinburn will miss
the cheery smile she had for everybody.
