A celebration of joy
Christian Joy was the theme when the
Fall Rally of Maitland Presbyterial of the
Women's Missionary Society met in St.
Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Wingham
on Oct. 4. Mrs. Evan Keith of South Kinloss
presided.
Readers were Mrs. lra Dickie, and Mrs.
Harry Levis of South Kinloss; Mrs. Robt.
Arbuckle, Wingham and Mrs: David Neilson
and Mrs. Glenn Underwood of Gorrie.
Songs of joy were led by Mrs. Glenn
Haldenby, Kinlough, accompanied by Mrs.
Paul Mills, Wingham.
Seventy women representing 17 societies
answered the roll call with an interesting
way each group raises money. The Adult
Secretaries, Mrs. Clarence Gibson, Moles-
worth, and Mrs. Gordon Finlayson, Ashfield
introduced the new study on Central Africa.
The Presbyterial president, Mrs. Robt.
Bregman, Teeswater, spoke enthusiastically
of attending the Ladies'' Camp at fantail last
June. She reminded the societies to study
their Aim and Purpose before the year's
end, to evaluate the South Pacific study
when it is completed, and to send in
year-end reports promptly. She announced
that the Maitland Presbyterial Annual
meeting will be held In Wingham on Jan: 16,
1984 and that the Hamilton and London
Synodical will meet in Wingham on April 25
and 26.

Reading an item about what happened to a
businessman while on a flight in the British
Isles could make a person hesitate to make
use of the toilet while in the air. After using
that facility the man found himself locked in.
A stewardess, awned with a passenger's
small screwdriver, was unsuccessful in
attempts to get the door open. He was
trapped inside until they landed at Heathrow
airport some time later. Embarrassed he was
and rushed off in a great hurry. What about
the other thirty passengers aboard that
flight? They were locked out while he was
locked in.. Some of them must have spent
that time in acute discomfort.
Some things that once were play have
become work. Baseball, football, hockey
were played in the past in the spirit of fun.
Winning, while strived for, was not of prime
importance. Win. or lose, the game was
played for fun and the comradeship enjoyed.

We are living in a fast -paced society.
Everything is geared for speed. Gone is the
time when what. we were doing, be it watt or
play, was done with reasonable pace and
enjoyed. Now so many people always seem
to be in a rush - get things done in a hurry
no matter how or with what inconvenience to
others. The constant hectic pace, it seems,
has confused some people and they feel lost
like a guide once read about. He had beeu
hired by American and Egyptian' Scientists ro
guide them across the trackless deserts of
Egypt. He was of little help to them for he
was used to crossing the desert at camel
pace and judging location by time of day.
The speed of motorized travel confused and
disoriented him. Today there are, likely,
people in the same state of mind as that
guide. The result of our somewhat hectic
way of life, the speed of change in so many
things around us.
