NO HEAD LICE was found during a routine check of 363
students and teachers at Seaforth Public School on Friday.
Only four cases of nits (the eggs) were found by Huron
County health unit nurses. The health unit hopes to
complete the checks of 35 elementary schools by Sept. 15.

Schools take health role?
The Huron County Board of Education
will provide speech language pathology
services to school-age children.
The board agreed at its Sept. 6 meeting to
provide the services "as soon as possible in
the most cost-effective manner". This action
follows a notice from two hospital speech
language pathologists indicating their ser-
vice will be discontinued for Huron's
school-age children effective Aug. 31.
Director of education Robert Allan told the
board its special education plan calls for
providing speech-language pathology ser-
vices, but not until 1985.
"The public should be made aware that up
goes our costs. We have to accept this. We
have to help the children," said trustee John
Jewitt, adding that what was once the
domain of the Ministry of Health now falls
under the jurisdiction of the local school
boards.
There is increasing pressure for boards
to take over what was formerly in the health
domain " said Mr. Allan noting that some
hospitals are recommending that parents
contact the Huron County Board of
Education for future service.
Trustee John Elliott expressed concern
that with the implementation of Bill 82 (the

EASE SLICING
Raw meat is easier to slice
thinly or cube if it's partially
frozen or has been chilled in
the freezer for about one-half
hour.
STORE SEPARATELY
Do not store carrots near ap-
ples. The ethylene given off by
apples as they ripen makes
carrots bitter.

Seven ways to get through the sciiceol year
BY PATRICIA 1 kMMER
With classes now in action
every week day in area
schools and service clubs and
choirs planning meetings
once a week, people are now
finding out why they enjoy
their summer holidays so
much. No longer can we avoid
doing things because we are
too hot or promised the kids
that we would take them to
the beach. This month begins
a series of weeks when we
beco a involved in organiza-
tion 3h luding school and
won
With
homework and the tests and
the essays and let us not
forget the headaches! School
s what puts Bayer and
Tylenol in business I am sure.
However, there are some
great ways to keep ahead of
all the hustle and bustle and
prevent yourself from having
a nervous breakdown.
e,klasses, come the
1. Organize your time wise-
ly. Dont plan to go to three
meetings in one night and do
an essay too because it is just
not possible. Instead, choose
the meeting that is most
important for you to attend
and see if you can get
someone to fill you in on what
you miss at the others.
Perhaps, if your organization
is small, you could suggest
another night that might be
better for more members in
the group and yourself. It is
worth a trv.
2. Never try to do an essay
or assignment in one night.
Take it from one who is
experienced enough to know.
If you leave something until
the last minute, chances are
that it will not be your best
effort, and besides, no one
likes to stay up until three
o'clock in the morning with an
assignment. If you are going
to stay up that late, you may
as well be havinga good time.
ENJOY TOO
3. Don't get involved in so
many things that you don't
have time to enjoy yourself
and spend time with your
friends.
4. Spend time relaxing and
doing leisure activities that
you enjoy. Nothing can calm
me down and make me see a
new light better than getting
away from an assignment
that is causing problems and
Jog, walk or cross-country
ski. Just think of the weight
that you can lose while you
are exercising.
5. For stridents who are
easily distracted, radio or
television are a novo. Be-
lieve me, I know. Although I
have tried several times to
master the art, it is nearly
impossible to memorize for-
mulas and catch the end of
WKRP in Cincinattl as well.
6. As mothers always in-
sist, make sure you have a
good breakfast before you go
to school or work. Although I
used to try to go without a
breakfast and use that ten
minutes for combing my hair,
or making my bed, this year, "
breakfast is a must. With the
semester system, some stu-
dents' timetables are not
quite even in both semesters.
1 am a perfect example of this.
I have four classes 1n a row for
the first semester with no
lunch or break in between.
My spare is either fust class
or last class in the day. So,
you can see how important.
breakfast is to me. However,
everyone needs a good break-
fast no matter how many
classes they have.
SURVIVE!
7. Survive. No matter
how
bad thingsmay seem, or
how high your pile of home-
work may get, with time and
patience, things are bound to
get better...the couldn't u dn't get
any worse, could they?
If you know of anyone who
will be celebrating their birth-
day soon, please send their
name, age and birthday to

The high school page in the
paper, The Junction, will be
back with us next week after a
summer away. We will have
some new writers and photo-
graphers too, so it should be
an interesting section for you
to read. If you are a high
school student and would like
to become involved in an
extra -curricular activity, give
the Junction a try. The
Junction will bo successful if
the writers and photograph-
ers are plentiful. Writing for
the Junction does-not'take a
lot of time and you don't have
to be a fantastic writer. Just
think, if you write for the
Junction this year, you could
be grateful in years to come.

Introduce your oil furiace
to add-on electric heat and
Q
introduce yourself to substantial oil savings.
Kissing that old flame goodbye isn't the
only way to reduce your oil consumption.
If that oil furnace is still in good shape,
you can take adSantage of converting to
a dual energy heating system.
Instead of replacing your furnace,
introduce it to an electric plenum heater,
heat pump, electric boiler or baseboard
heaters. These dual energy systems let
oil and electricity work in harmony to
heat your home more efficiently and
more economically. Operation is simple.
The electric system works until the
coldest winter days, then your oil
furnace automatically takes over.
In most cases, add-on electric heat
will reduce oil consumption by up
to 75° Even more in some cases. And
a reduction of that magnitude can make
a dramatic difference to the total cost of
heating your home.
The Plenum Heater
The "plenum" is the warm air chamber
at the top of your forced air oil furnace.
.1n„unn,y, .'Po,,, ,, .•gni„
That's exactly
where a plenum heater
is installed. So that on most days,
the fan circulates more economical,
electrically generated heat.
The Heat Pump
Even on cold winter nights, there is still
warmth in the outside air. Just like a
refrigerator, the heat pump extracts that
warmth and pumps it into your home.
Plus there's an
added bonus. In the summer, your heat
pump works in reverse and becomes a
central air conditioner.
The Electric Boiler l
If you have an oil fueled hot Water
heating system, there' another alter-
native. You simply add an electric boiler.
It's no bigger than a
small suitcase and
can be easily installed.
A Baseboard Heaters
Electric baseboards can also be used as
a dual energy system. They're installed
in individual rooms to quietly handle
most of the heating load.

The Time is Right
Today is definitely the time to investigate
the savings of introducing your oil fur-
nace to an add-on electric system. The
COSP (Canada Oil Substitution Pm-
gtam ) grant will pay for half of the in-
stalled cost or $800, whichever is less,
on all systems where oil consumption is
reduced by 50% or more.
To find out more about the benefits
of a dual energy system, contact your
local Hydro or electric heating con-
tractor today and ask them about special
assistance that could lead to even greater
savings. And tell your furnace to get
ready for a warm and meaningful
relationship this winter.
