A10 — THE HURON EXPOSITOR, SEPTEMBER 14, 1983 Budde racers at motocross series Sept. 8, the second race in the new beginners' series was run at Hully Gully. It attracted all kinds of budding racers from 6year-old Benit Crane right up to a few participants who wished they arrived to give the small, but were six again. enthusiastic crowd of well- Several three wheelers the participants One articipants was hHully Gully's Drag Racing team rider Ted Chatterly. Ted is used to straight line charges in the 200 mile per hour range, not to going over curves --and certainly not to riding on three wheels. Ted's first attempt at three-wheeler racing left him speechless... and breathless. When he finally managed to catch his breath, his first words were "that's the longest 10 sec- onds I've ever raced!" Ted's normal style of racing usually only lasts 10 to 11 seconds. However, once a competitor, always a competitor. Ted managed a third place finish in the ATV class, despite the fact that it was his first time. Tae next race in the Beginners' Series takes place at bully Gully Thursday evening, Sept. 15. Practice begins at 6:00 p.m. with racing starting at 7:00. Each participant races in two races, and the final placing depends on his or her combined score. For information on how to enter, a phone call to Hully Gully is all that's necessary. In the 8 p.m. game, Scott's won 24-1, against McNichol. On Sept. 8 in the 7 p.m. game Smith Pools lost against Commercial 17-14. Scott Farms won the sea- son trophy. Commercial and Scott's Farms play for the play-off champs in two out of three games starting Tuesday, Sept. 13. (Photo by Hundertmark) Local rider in national race series Local motocross racer Chuck Collins of Varna com- peted in his first National level race series as an "ex- pert" rider recently. Chuck did extremely well in the east, across Canada, ranking lOth, after two rounds, and took his experience with him to race in the Western Canadian cir- cuit. He raced at events in Austin, Manitoba, in Calgary and in Edmonton. In Austin, a flare-up of an old injury hampered his efforts some- what, but he still managed a respectable finish. In Edmon- ton, two flat tires frustrated attempts to finish in the high points, but he managed to finish as 15th top Canadian rider anyway. Chuck placed 10th in the qualifier and 5th in the quarter final. The race was heavily contested, and des- pite good placing, Chuck had to join World Champion Brad Lackey and many others who didn't qualify for the finals. The race was won by Ross Pederson, and he was fol- lowed by five Americans, including superstars Donny Cantiloupi, Jim Holley and Jeff Hicks. Chuck has re- turned home in time to continue his pursuit of the Ontario High point series in which he's currently running 3rd.
