works as part of a summer, fong promotion.
The artists were protnised plenty of
promotion and coverage for the Artists'
Alley section : of the development in
downtown Montreal, but verylittle- was
'done, Prebenays. Each artist was to pay
$50 for the rirs$t month and then: S1 a••day.
When tbettartists complained to the
developer, .Strathmar-Fidelity, Inc., rela-
tions deteriorated, and on July 19 the
artists, 18 of them, were evicted, a month
after Artists' Alley opened and well before
the planned closing Sept. 30.
Preben, who painted a large sign
advertising the area, says he lost about
5300 in direct costs to set up his section of
the Alley. Other artists lost money and
when evicted without notice in mid-July
found it was too late to find other space to
sell their work during the summer. "All
the artists also lost valuable time, energy
and effort we put into `,this 'project, he

The :dispute has received coverage in
Montreal's The Downtowner, . La Presse,
Le Journal de Montreal and The Gazette.
Disputing a statement by it spokesman
for the developer, Preben, sada, according
to The Gazette, "We created the atmo-
sphere you asked of us, showed up for
business at the correct times and even put
in our own money."
Village, Lincoln president David Neill
said the company had actually been doing
the artists a favor, since the City of
Montreal charges an artist $1,650 a month
to display work on private property.
"People in the Seaforth and London area
are constantly asking my parents how my
art and life is progressing," Preben says.
His work now includes organizing fellow
artists.

So many Things to share with

The day God called you home.
So dearly loved and deeply

Arnold Scott who passed
away one year ago on Aug.
29, 1982
We often sit and think of him
When we are alone,
For memory is the only friend
That grief can call its'8wn,
Like ivy on the withered oak,
When other things decay
Our love for him will still be
green
And never fade away.
Sadly missed and lovingly
remembered by grandchild-
ren and great grandchildren.

SCOTT: In loving memory of
a dear father and grandfather
Arnold Bertram Scott, who
passed away August 29, 1982
God made a Dad so loving and
kind,
We had, the honour of calling
him "Mine".
No one can know the sorrow
we share,
When the family meets and
you're riot There,
We hold our tears when we
speak your name,
But the ache in our hearts
remains the same,
If there was only some way,
we could let you know,
God bless you Dad, we miss
you so.

How much we miss you yet:
To know we never said
goodbye
Will always bring regrets,
But the hearts that loved you

A thousand times we've
missed you
And a thousand times we've
cried
If our love could have saved

You never would have died.
What we would give if we
could,say
Hello ,Ken in' the same old
way
To hear your voice, to see you
smile,
To sit with you and chat a

So you who have a brother,
Cherish him with care,
