This is the first time Brussels won the tourna- ment. On Friday night they play- ed against Blyth and defeated them 7-2. On Saturday they won their, game against Londesboro. Final scpre was 5-3. SUTTON P.R.O. A three day visit of Ameri- cans to the Royal Canadian Legion at Brussels and Wing - ham began Fri. Aug. 12. American Legion members of Post 104, Standish, Michi- gan, their wives and V.F.W. Friends enjoyed the hospital- ity and comradeship ar- ranged for them by R.C.L. executive officers and the Brussels Legion Pipe Band. President Les Brewer of Branch 218, Brussels, past pres. Don Blenkhorn, Drum Major Tom McFarlane of the Pipe Band and Ross Bennett, Branch Service Officer direct- ed the efforts of many legion, Ladies Auxiliary, and Pipe Band members to provide accommodation, meals, re- freshments, entertainment, dancing and friendly gather- ings. Friday <evening was called Pub Night. Alice Bro- thers and Alf Sutton took turns at the electric organ providing background and sing -along music. On Saturday the many community events sponsored by Brussels Optimst Club, town merchants and recrea- tion association gave visitor and townspeople a fun pack- ed day. Saturday evening following a dinner at the Legion, a program of enter tainment and a dance round ed out the evening. High lights of the evening program os Ethel Sut ton, stepdancing by Lisa Glanville and Scottish danc- ing by Kate Proctor and Jennifer Proctor. Legion vice- pres. Bob Fraser was the comedian and instrumental- ists included Alice Brothels and Alf Sutton on piano; pipe band members Don Dunbar, electric organ, Nelson Howe, violin; and James MacLean, piper soloist. The Brussels Legion Pipe Band under the direction of Pipe Major Charles Proctor and Drum Major Tom McFar- lane concluded the program with a medley of stirring Scottish pipe band marches reels and strathspeys. Commander Larry Lefever and past. cmdr. Paul Dake of Post 104 American Legion, Standish, Michigan present- ed replicas of the American /Legion crest to Pres. Les. Brewer for Brussels Legion Branch 218 and to Past Pres. Willis Hall for Wingham Legion Branch 180., Distinguished American visitors included Mr. Jack Stoner, the Mayor of Standish Michigan and his wife Elaine. Following the presentations by American Legion com- b• manders, Mayor Stoner spoke to the gathering. In co-operation with the Brus- sels Lions Club the Legion has bussed boys and girls to Gorrie for swimming classes. Al Nichol, Gordon Rut- ledge and Eric Ross have kept their committees active and Branch 218 ,has donated $1000 to the newly formed Junior D Hockey organiza- tion. The Legion has also donated 51000 towards the formation of a St. John Ambulance Division for the Brussels area. A corn roast is planned for all Legion members and spouses to take place at the Legion Hall Sat. evening, Aug. 27. Bob Richardson reports that euchre, cribbage and dart game events will be under way in September and October. The branch will have representatives'at Brus- sels Fall Fair.
