Grant to Perth libraries approved
Perth County has received
official notice that its applica-
tion for a 119,000 library
grant has been approved, but
the county is awaiting further
word on exactly how the
money is to be spent.
County council announced
at its Aug. 11 session that it
had received approval on the
grant from the Ministry of
Citizenship and Culture but
in the letter there was no
reference to the budgeted
breakdown of the 119,000
submitted at the end of last
year. Instead reference was

made to the funds being used
for development of a county
library.
The budget was divided
into numerous categories.
The largest item was $4,000
for library promotion at fairs,
women's institute meeting,
service clubs, etc. Casual
help for the courier system
was budgeted at 11,300 for
five hours per week and
mileage at 53,500.
A co-ordinator at 10 hours a
week was budgeted at 13,000.
Other budgeted items in-
clude: 52,000 for general
administrative expenditures
plus a newsletter, 11,500 for
story hour presentations,
11,000 for film purchases and
education of committee mem-
bers, 1600 for village books,
1900 for personnel workshops
and 1200 to tour the Midwest-
ern Regional Library System
in Kitchener.
The letter from the Minis-
try also noted that it is
encouraged that the county is
considering the creation of a
county library system.✓
"I don't know where they
got that idea," said Elma
Reeve Glynn Coghlin.
Ellice Reeve Fred Knechtel
commented that he had read
in the press that Perth County
was going into a county
library system.
"As one councillor, 1 didn't
state we were going into a
county syste`4n,'1 said Reeve
Knechtel.
