Wipe offends biker's bid
An out -of -control bike ended Brian Keys'
chance to qualify for the junior national
motocross races at River Glades, Nova Scotia
but the 17 -year-old motocross racer living in
McKillop township isn't sorry he travelled
the 1000 miles to compete.
"It was quite an experience and he's glad
he went," says his mother Catherine after
speaking to him on the phone from Nova
Scotia. "His father said he looked really
good. He just had some tough luck."
A rider who lost control during the
qualifying race wiped out Brian and five
other riders. By the time they got back on
their bikes they were too far behind to catch
up. Brian ended up in 21st place. He had to
be in the top 19 to qualify.

Brian, who works on a farm vtear Seaforth
in the summer and lives in Hamilton during
the school year, has been motocross racing
for three years in house league and one year
in Canadian Motocross Association (CMA)
races. Placing seventh out of 80 bikers in a
race during the holiday weekend at Hully
Gully gave him the confidence to attempt the
junior nationals.
"After that race, a! CMA representative
told him he could do well in the nationals
since the competition wouldn't be any
tougher than it was here," says Mrs. Keys.
But, Brian's experience at the junior
nationals hasn't decreased his enthusiasm
for the sport.
"He's still raring to gat," says his mother.
