Baird, of typhoid fever, at the age of
27 years. He was a son of David Baird,
of St. Paul, formerly a resident of Eg-
mondville.

The people of Londesboro locality
were shacked on Wednesday evening,
Aug. 14th, to bear of the death of Mrs.
W. H. Moon. She was getting tea ready,
and feeling faint, asked her daughter to
help her to a lounge and call a doctor.
This she did, but she had expired before
any assistance could be rendered her.
Rev. Father Owen, parish priest in
Ayton for the past thirty years, died in
Hamilton on the 13th inst. Father Owen
has been in failing health for a number
of weeks and his death was not unexpec-
ted.

This week we are called upon to re-
cord the death of Mrs. Eliza Ferguson,
relict of the late Edward Ferguson, of
Orange Hill, which took place on Sun-
day evening, elng. llth in her 64th year.
Deceased has been in failing health for
som etiwe.
At a London ingneet on Monday, Dr.
Westoott, the coroner, examing a mar-
riage certificate, dated 1858, which had
been handed in, remarked that on the
top was printed, "Wives submit your-
selves onto your husbands." They
don't pat that on now.

Mies Ellen Terry was born in Coventry
fifty-nine years ago. Two houses in
that English city claim to be her birth-
place. One house has the sign: "This
is the birthplace of Miss Ellen Terry";
the other, jest opposite, bears the legend ;
"This ie the original birthplace of Mise
Ellen Terry."
The newest thing in agriculture is the
stalkless potato which spends all its
time growing the tuber and wastes no
time on the useless stalk. The many

On Saturday, August 10th, there
passed away at his residence near
Holmesville, one of the most respected
farmers of Goderich township, in the
person of Samuel Walter. Mr. Walter
was born in Devonshire, Eng., 68 years
ago, and came to Canada in 1856. He
settled in Clarke township, Durham Co.
In 1869 he married Miss A. Barrie,
daughter of the late Thomas Barrie, of
Newcastle. In 1376 he removed to
Goderich township, where he bas since
resided,
Mrs. J. Hatcher, 224 Sherbrooke Street,
Peterboro, Ont., and whose husband is a
moulder at the Hamilton Foundry, states:

rheumatism which left me in a very run
down state of health, and in fact my
