For the . -first time, this year, seasonal camping rates are available at the Falls.at 5425 for the season or six months. Falls Reserve has the most Varied of offerings of any of MVCA's conservation areas. It is also advantageously located near the shores of Lake Huron which is a tremendous tourist attraction. Last year's figures indicate there were 17,000 camper days with „more than 25, per cent coming from London. Campers also come from Stratford, Sarnia, Windsor and the United States. In 1982 there were 14,000 day users with about 25 per cent coming from the local Goderich and Clinton area. As in the case of campers, the day users also, come from London, United States and Sarnia. Galbraith Conservation Area is a smaller area located between Milverton and Listo- wel off both Highways 86 and 19. There is a •large spring -fed pond for swimming, a picnic shelter and 20 serviced camping sites. The locals know the area as "Gilley's Pit", but contrary to the name there is more to the conservation area than the ,pond. 'There are also nature trails for hiking and plenty of grassy area for tossing a ball or frisbv. tit 4. Each conservation area has a picnic pavillion and it is shggested that groups wishing to use the pavillion make reserva- tions as Galbraith and Falls Reserve charge a fee. There are other conservation areas throughout the watershed where; although there is no camping. there are scenic spots for picnicking. Such an area is Pioneer located just outside of Bluevale off Highway 86. ,The • natural vegetation and bodies of water located in the Maitland watershed are part of Ontario's vast wonderland. Galbraith now charges for day use and camping. The day use fee is $1 per car while camping is $5 per night with an additional $1.50 for hydro service. The remaining camping facility in the Maitland watershed is at the Wawanosh Valley Conservation Area. Located off Huron County Road 22 which may be reached by travelling along Highway 86 west of Wingham or from Auburn, north. east of Goderich, Wawanosh Valley has about 20 unserviced sites. The Maitland River flows through this heavily wooded conservation area. Those interested in fishing may take advantage of two fish 'ponds located on the site. The winning photos in '°ethe amateur photo contest, as judged on July .13 by Mac Campbell of Campbell's Cameras, were presented to the board of directors. In the colour division, first prize of a mounted colour enlargement from Jervis Photo in Clinton, went to Elaine Baynham of Exeter. Second prize of a video movie and viewer rental from Carmen's Camera in Goderich, also went to Elaine Baynham. Bill Cooper of R.R.5 Kincardine won third prize, a pet examination and vaccination from the Kincardine Veterinary Clinic. Prizes for honourable mention in the colour division were received by Elaine Baynham, a pet food container from the Finn dr Hike along the Maitland this weekend at Falls The Falls Reserve Con- servation Area just outside of Goderich offers excellent fa- cilities for fishing, swim- ming, picnicking and camp- ing. Being off the beaten track. yet still easily access- ible. the Falls often has campsites available when other parks are full. The campgrounds have many well treed hydro and non -hydro sites along „with ,washroom; a nd` s1rowe'r-Tani ties. The Visitor Service. Pro- gram will be offering some activities Aug. 6 and 7 for campers and day users. On Saturday morning at 10X00 a.m. there will be a guided hike along the Maitland. Saturday evening at 9:00 p.m. the "Moonlight Movie" will be shown at the picnic shelter. Crafts for the kids at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday morn- ing will be held at the Activity Centre. So, whether you are from the local area or out of town make a visit td the Falls a part of your summer plan. Photos entered in this contest were on display at the Festival of Arts and Crafts in Goderich on July 22 - and 23. . The board expressed their appreciation to Mr. Camp- bell for judging the contest, to all the businesses which generously donated the prizes, and to all the entrants for their participation. Concern was expressed by Mrs. Audrey Graham on an article which recently ap- peared in an area paper regarding a dog and a puppy which had been abandoned. < She felt that this was an example of the need for a shelter in this area where unwanted animals could be taken instead.
