There is.a bit of good news' for Canadians if
a recently published economic outlook by the
Organization for Economic Co-operation in
Paris can be trusted. It said Canada will lead
the Western nations in growth economy. The'
report also said the long-delayed economic
recovery in the industrialized West is finally
underway but ended on a dismal note saying
the -re were doubts about how - strong the
recovery would be and whether it would last.
Women hale been allowed to become
members of the armed forces but not, it
seems. on navy ships. Vice -Admiral James
Andrew Fulton, who retires as commander of
Marine Command this July, has said "There
is no room on Canadian fighting ships for
women". He admitted that he was sure they
-Can do the job but that was not the issue. It
was that there is no room for intimate
relations on a warship. There can be only one -
occupation. That is the work at hand. Other
countries, he stated. have aregretted the
decision to put women on navy ships.
The plight of the 74 year-old Kitchener lady
who is being evicted from her apartment
because of the small dog she has had with her
there for the past two years is saddening. Her
heartache at the thought of having to part
from her dog. and her decision to hunt for an
apartment where she will be permitted to
keep Silver rather than get rid of her dog, is
well understood. When, in her advancing
years, a woman is living alone with a dog'tier
only constant companion there grows a
special bond of understanding between
them. The animal is a comfort and a sour''ce'of
enjoyjnent, alive member of the home t41 !eve
and care for. In return one gets an abundance
of ever present trust and devotion, a barrier,
against loneliness and depression. It is hoped
he will receive compassion and find a home
for herself and her companion - her dog.

Fans of both the Toronto Blue Jays and the
Argonauts can shout with pride these days.
The Blue Jays. when this was written, were
still alone at the top of the East Division
standings. The Argos have been putting on
winning performances. Now if they can only
both keep it up for the rest of the season? •
It is vacation time! As you read this I will be
on my way for a holiday with my Ottawa
family. Travel will be by way of a somewhat
irregular route to that city. First to Toronto
then to Kingston, there to be met by my son
and two other members of his family. There
we go aboard his boat and take off on -a cruise
of the St. Lawrence and the Thousand
Islands. After that it will be on to Ottawa.
Considering the hot, dry spell we have had we
will probably get cool, rainy weather while on
the St. Lawrence. Even so it is looked forward
to with pleasure. Living aboard a boat for a
few days will be a new experience which will
be enjoyed, being fond of the water and
boats. There being an adventurous confident
youngster along he will no doubt give me a
few moments of fright with his daring antics.
There will be no apprehensiveness about our
safety on this trip for my son is officially
qualified in all requirements for safe
nayigation. Have a safe vacation folks and
enjoy yourselves as I intend to do.
