The fee was approved at county council' s July 14 session its part of the overall changes to the Planning Act, The feel will come into effect on Aug 1 and is an increase over the current fee of 5100 for an application which is turned down and 5150 for an approved application. Ellice Township Reeve Fred Knecthel termed the increase 'outrageous". South Easthope township Reeve Amos Gerber agreed, stating an increase'from 5100 to 5300 "is going too far". Elnia Township Reeve Glynn Coghlin, who voted in favor of the increase, pointed out it costs 5296 per application to operate the land division committee. "The one that is benefitting from the severance should pay." said Reeve Coghlin. "Is that including sending the committee to conventions?" asked Reeve Gerber. The South Easthope Township reeve was told the figure includes sending the commit- tee to conventions, but does not include the cost of the planning department's work on land severances. Reeve Gerber didn't disagree with the educational opportunities of conventions but he said they benefit the whole county, not just the person seeking a, land severance. "The fees have been too - I gue s the word would be 'cheap' - up till this point," said Blanshard Reeve Ron Denham, Recognizing that the fee increase is "quite a jump", Reeve Coghlin said "the 5300 isn't going to near cover the costs of the planning department. The taxpayer still is picking up some of the tab."
