Besides an all -day slo-pitch baseball tournament, there were several competitions and attractions for young people. One of these was the bicycle parade, and Danny Cronin, of 'Dublin, was equal to the event as he dressed up In a clown costume to participate in the ride down main street. (Photo by Paul Mahon) Frogs new attraction at Dublinfest Correspondent JOAN CRONIN 345-2772 On Saturday. July 9, Dub- linfest was held at the Park in Dublin beginning with a pancake breakfast served by the Leo Club. The young• stern, 10 years of age and under. worked for hours decorating their hikes and tricycles to enter into the bicycle parade to proudly wheel down main street. All 26 entries were decked out to perfection and they were all well worthy of each receiving a prize. A new and very popular event was the Frog Jumping Contest. Some of the compet- itors spent a few days search- ing for the perfect frog, while others sought out theirs just in time to enter. They were proudly brought in old tin cans, neat little pails or snuggled in a lad's T-shirt. There were big fat frogs, tiny wee frogs and long lean lanky frogs. To the competitors -- this was better than the Kentucky Derby, there was a great deal more at stake •• sure this was their chosen frog and it must ' have the best legs in town. Mind you I didn't see any of these lads kissing their frog to see if it would turn into a princess. The winners of the competition were 1. Mike Cronin, 2. Bruce Ruston. 3. .Iamie Stapleton. 4.Joe Looby There was also a lot of fun at the Dunking Machine with the proceeds from it going 10 the Leo Club. To many of the participants this was a neat way to keep cool, Throughout the day there was lots of action on the ball diamond as the Men's Slow Pitch Tourna- ment was hying played. The eight teams participating pro- vided the spectators with plenty of action and good ball. The winner of the Molson ' A' Trophy was the Millbank team and the 'B' trophy went to- the Mitchell Red Caps. Approximately 500 people enjoyed the delicious barbe- cued pork chop dinner. To complete an absolutely perfect day. a dance was held at the pavilion to the music of Jasper. The Dublin Lions and the Dublin Leo Club are extremely pleased with the successful day long festivities and are grateful to the Dublin and area residents. The Dublin and District Athletic Association Bngo Jackpot is now up to 5700. on 58 calls this coming week. So come out and play Friday evening at 8 p.m. at the pavilion this could be all yours.
